It seems to me this forum should be called Local Internet Marketing since that really seems to be the focus. Or maybe there should be another forum added called local.

Offline, to me, means any marketing that's not internet marketing such as yellow pages, newspapers, direct mail, etc. but that's not really what's discussed on this forum for the most part.

When I first saw the forum, I thought it would be about non-internet marketing but obviously its not.

In fact, it's mostly about providing SEO services, which makes it even more silly.

It is true many people on here talk about providing SEO to local businesses.

But you have to understand that this section of the forum was set up as a result of the huge number of threads appearing in the main forum over the past couple of years.

In these threads the term "offline" marketing was used to define selling your internet marketing services to local businesses.

So the name makes perfect sense to people who have been on this forum for the past few years.

I think it's VERY important to understand that providing SEO to local businesses is a very tiny portion of what you could be doing for them.

In many cases the most effective forms of marketing for local business involve integrating online and offline marketing techniques to do a variety of things including:

      # Following up with prospects and customers more effectively

      # Pre-educating prospects using information like reports, audio video etc delivered online and offline

      # Following up with customers to get them to buy again, buy more, or buy more frequently.

      # Using internet and other forms of follow up, lead generating reports, audio, video etc to create powerful referral systems.

      And many other strategies.

Thinking of just offering SEO services to local businesses is a VERY narrow viewpoint.

      Kindest regards,
      Andrew Cavanagh

        Hi Warriors

Sub-forums pop up when the overwhelming interest in a "particular area" of market appears to be getting more and more posts.

It's awesome that the mods recognize this and have created the different sub-forums as it allows people to talk to others who may be willing to share and openly discuss the topics at large.

        We love em!!!

        Regards

        Bronwyn and Keith

Yea, the whole "offline marketing" term (the definition thats being used on this forum anyway) is really stupid. It has almost nothing to do with using offline marketing tactics. Except that you are marketing yourself and your online services to offline businesses I guess, which is really just an SEO or SEM consultant. Its like Dwight Shrute on The Office saying hes the "Assistant Regional Manager" and the Michael Scott telling him hes the "Assistant TO the Regional Manager" Ok, not really like that at all but I love that show

Yeah, it's really Internet Marketing for Offline Businesses, but when the whole trend started here on the forum it was called Offline Gold. Then all future products had the term "Offline" attached, so it would be hard to change that now here on the forum since that term is what everyone looks for and associates with Offline Consulting.

I agree Paul. This has annoyed me at a number of "offline" forums. Where do we go for the real business marketing conversations?

Well, it's shorthand. Any type of shorthand is not going to be precise in this case. As has been said, it's really Internet Marketing for Offline Businesses, but in truth, that's not even exact. Really it's Internet Marketing for MOSTLY Offline Businesses. But even that's not necessarily true. Really, it's MOSTLY Internet Marketing for MOSTLY Offline Businesses.

Where does it end? Well, it could end there probably with "MOSTLY Internet Marketing for MOSTLY Offline Businesses" but that's just silly. Even going with "local" is not necessarily true in some cases. There are primarily "offline" businesses that people here are working with, yet they don't deal with "local" customers exclusively ... or even primarily in some cases.

In short, the permutations are endless. "Offline" seems to have become the de facto descriptor.

I agree and I'm sorry I posted this.

The original intent was maybe someone in management might get the message and create a "real" offline marketing forum.
