Need Some Cold Calling Motivation, Watch This Movie

So I have been searching around for some more motivation to get me pumped for Monday when I will resume my cold calling. A friend of mine that has been working at a call center for 2 years tells me to go check out this movie called The Boiler Room. I am sure most of you have probably have watched it before. But gosh darn it if after watching that movie and aren't motivated to make a few thousand, I don't know what will...it makes you almost feel like a punk for not making 500 calls a day. That and Jordan Belfort's book to me have been the best motivation you can have to get you to go out and make those calls.

Boiler Room was a pretty good movie. I like "Two For The Money" a little better though.

    Shocker.

Someone suggesting to follow the criminals in "Boiler Room" to sell web services.

And some of you wonder why I am such a cynical jerk at times.

There's another one with Alec Baldwin. I don't remember the name, it was very vulgar, but he kept saying "Coffee is for closers" and wouldn't let anyone who couldn't coldcall drink coffee. I'm sure you could IMDB it.

I was actually going to defend the Original poster because I don't think his post necessarily means that he condones some of the practices in this movie.

But It won't change how some people are so forget it.

To the OP, I hope you stay motivated to take action in your endeavors and wish you the best.

Glen garry glen ross is a great film!

I have ran a similar sales office for many years and no one really liked coffe so I had biscuits laid out every day and would say "Biscuits are for closers!" (You will get that if you have seen the film). It's amazing that salesguys get more fired up over the bragging rights of being able to wave a biscuit in someones face who hasn't made a sale than they do if you offer a cash bonus!

When people started moaning about the leads I'd put that movie on then tell them to make some sales and stop crying

Regarding boiler room; yes, they are ripping people off -- but -- the film captures the atmosphere of a sales office very well. Anyone who has worked in a large cold calling sales team will know what I am talking about. There is a certain energy that spurs you on to make call after call. Working on your own can make it hard to re-create this energy and buzz. If watching the boiler room fires up the OP then I don't think people should instantly assume he is a conman -- isn't it a bit childish to insinuate this?

I am glad that some of you guys are not retards and can take the good points of the movie for what it is lol. Why would I want to advocate ripping people off?

Don't mind the people with the, "Holier Then Thou" attitudes around here. Trust me, they have their shortcomings too.

      Hi SubUrbanHype

Yep - thats what "Movies" are supposed to do.

Entertain, shock, awe, allow us to reflect etc., etc.......

Lucky you didn't throw in the "Godfather" for its "Sales techniques"....LOL

Serious lols @ people getting their panties in a wad over what the characters in the movie were offering.

Seems to me the ones defending the OP are just as much over-reacting as those who raised the issue that the movie is about ripoff artists. I don't think a single person pressed the point once the OP explained why he takes inspiration from it. No need to accuse them of being humorless or holier than thou, getting their panties in a bunch, etc. In the immortal words of Rodney King, "can't we all just get along". (Rodney King is not my role model-in case anybody wonders-but those were simple, wise words).

Pretty sure common deduction would lead one to believe if his intentions were to scam someone, he wouldn't publically air it before doing so and recommend others take the same route.

I defended the OP because its obvious that the spirit of his post was not to condone ripping people off. That's pretty obvious. Some people are just fault finders, and in reality there is nothing about the OP's post to find fault with.

I think the OP's point was missed, or he didnt communicate it clearly. They got him on semantics. I know the scam part is not what he was suggesting we identify with.
