Craigslist still works... Kinda?

Hey warriors, I am graphic designer that specializes in logo designs & I have been wondering... are any of you warriors still getting leads from CL?

I happened to post an ad two days ago and received a bunch of spam emails, but gathered one client for my logo design business. So, in my eyes CL kinda works but not as well as it used to.

Any suggestions on where else to gather leads?

Thank you warriors.

Are you including a telephone number for potential clients to call? Get into the mindset of a person on craigslist. They are searching and emailing, but calling is the fastest way for them to get what they want. Really, writing an email takes entirely too long for some people, they'd rather just talk on the phone. That could be a reason why you are not getting a lot of leads.

If you are including your phone number, then what is your ad copy like? Would you mind giving us a little more so we can help.

Kinda is right. Though if you're determined you can turn the "kinda" into "more than kinda". I wouldn't put your phone number in your ad...it will just get scraped and then you'll get spam text messages to your phone. I've learned that CL clients suck 97% of the time.

Better off looking at freelancer, elancer or whatever. If you really want to make CL work for you, you need PVAs and post around the country with proxies...unless you're already doing that.

I figured that much.. The majority of people that contacted me were all spam. Thanks for the tip.

Craigslist is still a very viable source for leads, especially for web design and related services. I have also found that from placing my phone number in the ad, it dramatically increased my conversion rate, so give it a try and let us know how it works out for you. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised, and for the most part you'll only get serious people calling you, and not tire kickers.

CL is full of spammers for sure. Here's an interesting thought. Set yourself up for Google Places account and keyword optimize your listing with graphic artist, xyz city / state. make sure to completely fill out the template - if you have a portfolio to put - do it. Add video, etc. Graphic artists are in high demand. Visuals always sell better than non visuals.

I still get some leads from craigslist. I mean, it's not a lot of leads, but it's still some.

If you do want to put your phone # in an ad just put it a graphic. Can't get scraped that way.

I put my number in ads all the time and rarely ever get calls from unwanted places.

If you can place a HTML ad or one of those ad graphics that looks like a clickable video you might increase your response on CL. I have used Backpage with some success but that was a few years ago. Not sure how good it is today. I'd try to make the ad stand out

You can put a phone number on your ad....a google voice phone number that forwards to your real phone. Google voice is a free google service and you get to forward your number anywhere you want to.

If you use phone.com $4.88 month (250 minutes) ($18 max) you can add a link to call and they just type in their number and it will connect them to you. Meaning it will ring the phone number they entered in the fields and then connect them to you.
