Must Be Working ... $25,000+ per sale

Not necessarily new ...but it works for this company

Every week in the local newspaper this auto dealer ties his ad to what the local beach goers and surfers are routinely looking for.

Get your clients to do the same online...rss feeds or similar content direct to website
Get your clients to do the same offline...newspapers, flyers, etc...

The idea is to get your clients prospects to bookmark their website and introduce other
products and services through rotating banner ads and more.

Take a clue for the your city community sites and put your spin on it

Hope this gets others thinking.

Something that gets you thinking... However, I doubt that they make a lot of sales thanks to that ad. How many surfers are looking for a $25000 car? You can't ride the waves with that

You are getting the wrong picture about surfers. How do they get to the beach ? what are they using for transportation. Easy finance or a lease will get them a vehicle that can take them to the beach. Surfers are not a bunch of broke high schoolers acting like Sean Penn in Fast Times at Ridgemont High

Its a stretch. But I went with you and it was a good one. I get it, but its still not very precise targeting... better to place it in the section where people are looking for auto's.

Why don't you do some research and post your findings -- good or bad -- before posting your "doubts"?

Unfortunately, even if it IS working, it could be working (and converting) much better than what they have done with this advertisement.

If this was MY client, they would have a compelling headline that calls the DIRECT ATTENTION of surfers (the target market) with something that would appeal to THEM.

Something along the lines of having the perfect vehicle for their surfing needs (transporting their boards, impressing "hot beach babes," etc)

I'd also have an appealing lead generation offer to collect the contact info of potential prospects who might not be in the market to buy right NOW but WILL in the FUTURE. (a category which 9/10 readers will fall into)

Depending on the offer it actually it might even become the attention grabbing headline message as well.

Something like free board wax, a surfing DVD, etc. (low cost with high perceived value etc.)

    Then there's JV's etc.

...but maybe they're happy with their plain institutial-style of advertising with NO clear call to action...

Was hoping you guys would pick this apart...not discouraged :-) ... love the suggestions and btw surfers on the east coast have jobs too ... phone call Monday morning to the head man to talk about better ways to grab their audience ...

other point hope wasn't missed was tying this everyday info to a strong call to action.
