Increasing rank in foreign search engines?

Hi fellow offliners...

For some reason I am having a brain fart when it comes to improving my SERPs for a few of my websites in a foriegn market.

Basically, I have a site that ranks well in Google USA for its keywords. But I would like it to rank higher in Google.co.uk.

What do I have to do increase SERPs in different countries? Get more links from that country?

    1 - You need to have a local domain extension or you need to have your hosting servers to be located within that specific country.

    2 - Get backlinks from websites having their hosting servers in that country.

    Connect with local bloggers to write about you or get links on their sites, ask them how much or what they can do for you.
    You could offer some free stuff instead

    The domain tip is great UNLESS the customer already has their domain and doesn't want to change. Local backlinks are good, but there's a couple of things that I learnt when I had a client's site that wouldn't budge here in the UK market. They were on a .org extension (and happy with it) and had a bunch of US backlinks.

    1) Google webmaster tools. Install it, validate it - Then choose your country's audience from within the webmaster tools options. THAT tip alone moved my client's site two pages in the SERPs almost overnight.

    2) Ensure that the client's address appears somewhere on EVERY page of the site. Footer or sidebar will do.

    Both of those tips should help the big G figure out where they should be focusing that site.
