Offline Success ... As Easy As Saying "Hi"

I know there are a lot of ways to get to offline clients. Maybe the internet works for you with a web page... maybe you send targeted emails.

When you get right down to it, no one is going to give you a BIG check unless they believe what you say to them or just believe you, period.

You might make a few lower priced sales via the 'Net, in my opinion. But if you want to develop a business that will flourish and grow, you've got to have people give you big enough checks to take care of all your living expenses.

Many folks think you have to have a convoluted system or webinar or drip email process... but I have found that almost all my clients have come from referrals or me just saying "Hi," to someone and talking with them.

Did I go "Cold-calling" to businesses?

No.

Did I pick up the phone and make a pile of calls?

No.

I simply go about my normal routine and stop into places that look interesting or talk with people at lunch, the health club, when I go play, etc.

When you open up to people they will open up to you.

In addition, I typically have a "Loss leader" type of offer to get them in the door, then pitch them my $3000 - $5000 per month package.

Simple.

Stop making thing so hard.

Just talk to a few folks.

My consulting is to help build the whole business, not just concentrate on internet marketing. Generally, I get a client for six months and a percentage of the new profits.

    Cheers,

Talking naturally with people is a great no-pressure way to start a conversation.

Having three or more typical reasons people choose to do business with you, because you solve an urgent, emotional problem for them, is also a good idea. You can build this into your "30 second commercial." These reasons resonate with other leaders in that field, and they know that you understand their business right away. The #1 fear owners have of consultants is that they won't understand the business.

I agree. One of my sales guys does 90% of his business just by random encounters, saying "Hi". Then those clients become referring machines. He writes us a LOT of business.

    This is so true

I just landed my third client this very morning by a similiar approach. I know him through a friend and I checked out his website, rankings etc. He does very well in Google but his page takes 30 seconds to load and is horrible.

So I called him and said " Your website takes 30 seconds to load. You are losing business" I told him to go and look at my website (imperfect as it is at the moment).

He called me back and " I LOVE IT. When can you start?"

Millard, I have always been curious how you do a profit share, for example how do they know or you know if your services and suggestions are making them more money, it seems like to do a profit share they would need to open their books up to you and seems like a lot of legal paper work, can you simply this for me?

Obviously, you prove your worth to the client before they agree to give you profits... However, if you are just asking for a percentage of the increase, it is a no-brainer for them.

I agree, it is as easy as saying hi.

My personal routine usually involves waking up, finding businesses that need my help, then calling and saying hi.

If I call 50 businesses in a day I'll get speaking to 15-20 owners and out of those owners that I say hello and introduce myself to, normally at least 1 or 2 will want to meet to discuss their immediate need.

      Very straightforward stuff.

In this case, I am not talking about calling business owners cold, although if you are good at it, you can make a good living...

I am talking about going about your daily business and being friendly... you'd be surprised how much business you'll get by just getting out there.

I've always done well business wise via cold calling or face to face.I'm told that i've got great people's skills, down to earth, straight talking and build rapport easy.I think due to my personality trait,it has contributed to me winning a huge amount of business over the years.

      Hope this helps,

Yeah I realised what you meant from your original post

I'm curious, what's all this daily business you speak of?

What you are describing sounds like your doing face to face cold calling.

By daily business, I mean you got to the health club... you have breakfast... maybe you go shopping... you see a nifty store of something that interests you....

You are going about and not "cold calling" but just doing what you like to do. In the course of your day, you are going to run into people, you are going to talk to folks about what you are doing at the time.... You are being friendly.

Let's say that you like to go fishing. So you go to a few local spots to look for a specific lure. In the course of talking to the owners looking for the lure, you might start talking about the economy, or the weather, or their business. At the point that you start talking business, you make suggestions or you give a VERY GOOD tip to them.

You'll find out fast if they can become a client of yours.

Am I going out during the day with the idea that, "By jingo, I am going to get a client!"?

No. I know that I will get clients just by going about living my life.

When I hear someone react in a positive way, then I get into a helping mode... and cast the net.

What also helps me is that each client brings me much more money than a typical "offline" client.... so I don't need several handfuls of clients at any given time.
