Hey guys,

I'm about land a pretty big client. He owns a few hotel where I live. We are currently discussing about the price and he wants to pay $500 which I think is very low for 15 competitive keywords. I will try to ask more about $1,000 to make it fair. All i'm asking is wish me luck and I will let you guys know the update whether I close the deal or not.

Thanks

Don't sell yourself short, make them understand how much work and investment is needed on your part in order to help him gain authority for 15 keywords. $500 is DEFINITELY to low for 15 'competitive' keywords.

Nobody CARES how much work it is.

If you're trying to justify your fee by telling him how much work it's going to be on your end, you're not going to be a successful salesperson.

And yes, if it's you discussing this with the customer, then are ARE a salesperson.

If I get a prospect trying to give me $500 for the work OP says he wanted, I'd come short of laughing in his face. They need to understand the nature of SEO and why $500 is a puny investment for 15 keywords.

If someone is going to get a huge tattoo on their back and they go to a tattoo shop looking to get it down for $60, you bet the tattoo artists is going tell them why that's such a silly price considered everything that's being done.

500 is more like 2-3 keywords. You haven't shown him the importance of an online presence is and also try and communicate how much research and work goes into it before anything is even done online.

    Price??

I don't see any VALUE here.

What is he getting for his investment? How many keywords turns into how many qualified inbound leads per month? How much is the average amount he bills a customer? Multiply together.

Now you know how much your service is worth per month.

NOW, maybe, we can talk about the investment.

you have to believe in the value of your offering and have confidence offering it to potential clients (prospects like it if you believe in your service/product and is fully confident about it)....

like others said, one time $500 is low, especially considering he owns a few hotel as you said.... different story if you are charging $500/month though, now thats totally ok!

imho your obstacle is probably you are afraid of losing the deal if you charge more....

Definitely too low if you confident in getting results. Hotels have wonderful returns when additional clients are attained through internet marketing efforts.

Might be also advantageous to find out what more you can do to help to justify your services for $1,000 or more.

Frankly, SEO services are basic and there is a lot more you can do with this type of business.

    Best of luck!

Definitely selling it too cheap mate. Think about the return this business is going to be able to achieve if you deliver the results. Increase your price and charge a monthly fee, and provide performance guarantees after 6 months (that if you don't deliver 1st page results for half the keywords you'll work for free), and that will provide the security the hotel owner is after.

You'll definitely end up kicking yourself if you take this project on at this rate.

Take things in increments of 3 at the beginning and after you've added value then go from there. Have him rate those keywords from lowest to highest priority then determine which end of the spectrum you will work on first.

Starting with the low to mid priority keywords in groups of 3 should be encouraging as you gain momentum and begin to rank on page 1 of Google.

$500 for 15 competitive keywords is fine, providing he doesn't expect any real results...
