Standing Out From The Rest on Craigslist

Hi Offline Warriors,

I put up an ad in the Web section of Craigslist jobs to see what the competition was like. (I live in Toronto, Canada)

Within 24 hours I received 41 Replies from people all over the city and the world. For a 5 page simple website prices ranged from $199-$1800

Here's my ad: Looking for a Web Designer to Create My Business Website

So warriors, how would you stand out from the crowd if you were emailing someone on Craigslist? Why would they pick you in spite of your higher price?

That's a great competition spying strategy!

First you would need to establish the purpose of the website
    the buyer wants.

    Different purposes require different solutions.

    No one fit suits all.

Until the buyer provides the answers through asking the right questions,
then the sale is unlikely to be there.

    Best,
    Ewen

      hmmm. ad already taken down.

Did anyone ask what you really wanted, or was it stated in the ad?

haha, I had to take it down because I was literally bombaaaaaaaarded with emails this morning.

I made the ad as vague as possible (because that's the ads that are generally out there)

Nobody really tried to catch my attention, especially with the subject line.

I mostly got some rrrreaaally low quotes (mostly around $250) even from people locally.

Some of the emails were so bad I couldn't even read them on Gmail. There were so many attachments for their logos and their signatures, it was hectic to even find their message.

I read your post and did the same thing. Here is mine... Website and Marketing Needed

It sure is interesting seeing how other marketers try to grab your attention. It helps you also with your own responses when you reply to people needing help. Just by doing that I really saw how when I thought I was being different, I was just responding like everyone else. I didn't stick out at all.

Quote the highest hourly or flat fee rate. That's what I would do... Everyone competing over 200-400 bucks, isn't worth it.. If they're price shopping, they won't use you. If they care about quality they will give you the first shot to sell them.

Good companies tend not to respond to craigslist ads... Those are for bottom feeders who push poor quality.

Not 100% accurate. I know plenty of people here (including myself) who have closed 4-5 figure deals off of Craigslist. I wouldn't necessarily call those "bottom feeders" or "poor quality".
