I have emails, how to create a database?

Hey guys I need your help as I am a bit confused. I have a restaurant client and in our meeting yesterday he gave me around 300-400 comment cards which had names and emails of his customers and he wants me to make a email database for him which can then be later use for email marketing.

So my question how can I create a email database from those comment cards. Do I have do it manually on microsft excel or there is an easy way.

The easiest way where you don't have to spend money to have those contacts stored and be contacted soon for marketing reasons are gmail, yahoomail, hotmail and Outlook. You just have to create account and add those contacts there.

I would start out by creating a CSV file of the name/email, that way you'll have an offline backup. CSVs are usually easy to convert to a few other things like a MySQL database or whatever you need. I use Open Office for creating CSV files.

Thank you. I was thinking setting up an aweber account for my client and enter all the emails for him in that database. That would be useful in the email marketing which he wants to do in near future.

Aweber is fine, just make sure you explain the recurring cost to the client.

It would also be a good idea to keep the original email/name cards (paper?), create the mailing list, send out the first mail, then compare the emails that didn't open their mail to double check & make sure you didn't have any typos when manually creating the CSV file (or whatever). Even If your careful, odds are you'll still have a few typos on emails. After looking at the first 100 emails they'll probably start looking like a blur.

Whether you create a csv file or not you can still import the contacts from whatever service you are using as your backup.

I am not familiar with AWeber's policies, so please check with them first, to ensure that they will permit you to import your contacts. If they will, then make sure you know how they want you to format your data file.

You'll struggle getting aweber to agree to you importing a list of non opted-in email addresses.

If you enter them into a form yourself then you are restricted to adding 10 a day from one ip address.

To be frank, you will get a low response even though they gave the address to the restaurant and you'll need to explain that to the owner to avoid disappointment.

Creating a csv file first and foremost as the template to enter store and update your offline business mailing is the best advice for sure.

I also agree with others in that trying to import the entire list in one go into aweber is likely to be a problem therefore I'd check that out in advance if it were me.
