Hey everyone,

I would love to get everyones questions about drupal. Why do you use wordpress over it?

I want to here questions like:
  • how do you do this/that..?
  • In wordpress I can do ____, how do you do that in drupal?
  • This part of drupal seems confusing... can you explain it?
  • Can you make a video showing me how to _____?
  • etc...
  • etc...
Things I don't want to hear:
  • "you can do way more with wordpress" - thats not true. Its common knowledge in the development community that if you want to do more... you use drupal. If you cant figure something out with drupal, just ask, I'll see what solutions there are for you.
  • "its bad at seo" - this just isnt true... If your having issues... ask, I can help.
  • "wordpress has more pluggins..." - who cares, you can still do more w/ drupal... see the first point.
  • "wordpress has more themes" - this is probably true, but how many do you really use at one time?
Give it to me... I will answer (even if I don't know, but I'll try to find out).

I just got a question from a friend, he is new to "everything website". His question was basically, "where did my content go after I posted it".

I remember having this question too when I first started using drupal so I make a quick video and added above. Hope it helps someone.

    OK, I'll bite...

Why does the Drupal permission system have to be such a pain in the a**. I have built 20-30 drupal sites and still run into difficulties when a client wants something special designed and site permissions bare their ugly head.

What kind of permissions issues are you running into?

The biggest thing to remember about drupal permissions is that it is a whitelisting system, not blacklisting system. That means that it grants permissions... not takes it away. So if you have a module that gives permissions, another won't (more than likely) take that permission away.

A handy tool when doing permissions stuff is to use the devel module: Devel | drupal.org . Also enable "Devel Node Access" in the modules. Go into the devel settings and enable the node access stuff and then add the devel node access block to the bottom of your site (like footer area). This is pretty sweet and gives lots of access info really quickly.

Also, when using access modules, they always don't play nice w/ each other. I stick w/ the "main" ones like ACL and content_access.

Have you used varnish with pressflow at all? Do you know if there is a an easy way to get varnish ESI working with it?
