Do any of you know of a very comprehensive book for learning PHP coding you could recommend to me?

I learned PHP using this book:

The book is easy to read, filled with practical examples. If you understand half of it, you'll know enough PHP for lifetime.

  I'm positive , because it made me understand PHP. I own a copy of it and I learned PHP by reading it. I tried to learn PHP reading other books, but there were a lot of aspects there were not covered properly in those books. I own about another 20 PHP books.
  
  I love this book because the information is introduced gradually and examples are useful in the real applications.
  
  I'm not saying is the single PHP book you should read. But, if I had to start over learning PHP, I'd start with it.

The first tutorial I ever read for PHP and MySQL were from Webmonkey - The Web Developer's Resource*| Wired.com.

After you learn the basics, I recommend PHP Freaks - PHP Help Index and Icemelon -- PHP, CSS, Javascript Tutorials, & More!. These have very specific tutorials, e.g. building rating systems, social networks, pattern matching/expressions, image manipulation, etc.

  I wanted to recommend you a book on PHP but then I noticed that all of mine are pretty outdated.
  
  I recommend that you do a search on Amazon and don't buy a book that's older than 6 months to a year. Look at the reviews of other customers that way you'll know which book is decent.

I prefer W3Schools Online Web Tutorials, Tizag Tutorials, Web Makers Zone | Making your web experiences beautiful….
