I've been developing in the major server and client side languages for a handful of years now and like to consider myself pretty proficient in languages like:
I just recently got a Samsung Instinct and would love to work on a few apps for it. Apps for the Instinct run on Java, and I'd like to start learning that language so I can build some for my own use. Where would you recommend I start? Any books or sites would be great. Thanks! |

I don't know this for sure because I'm not that familiar with the Instinct... but I would GUESS that you'd develop JavaME apps... I doubt that it runs straight Java. I'm a Java developer, and I cut my teeth on the Wrox series of books. Also, the Head Start books are good too. Otherwise, you learn to live in the Java Docs. Java 2 Platform SE 5.0 The Java Docs are similar to PHP.net... you'd be familiar with that if you are a PHP developer. |

I sure am familiar with them. I'm always on that site. I ordered "Beginning Java ME Platform" from amazon tonight after finding out that the Instinct runs off Java ME. Most mobiles run off (what I gather is) a previous version, J2ME, but I want to develop specifically for the Instinct, so Java ME is what I'm looking for. Thanks! |
