File Transfer issue

Okay.

So i started a website, hosting and domain with hostgater, installed onto wordpress.

Now, I am transfering my file to the back end using Filezilla into my Public_HTML folder.

There are a bunch of Word Press files in there. WP-Admin, WP-content and WP-Includes and what ever is defaulted in them.

Now, am I able to delete them and replace them with my own files, or do I have to upload my own HTML, CSS and PHP into these wordpress files and folders somehow?

Any advice would be great.

    Okay, so, I just created a different directory and uploaded my files to that one. But, my website hasn't changes at all and doesn't show my own design.

    Please help guys and girls.

    Why are you deleting WordPress files? are you uploading a theme or plugin? or are you completely rewriting WordPress?

    Im uploading my own theme. Still designing it actually.

    Im just a little confused with a couple of things.

    I've created a new folder to put the files in so its not in the WP folders, which I assume that if I write a post for my blog I can't do it thought wordpress, I have to copy and post it into my code and re upload the file to my server.

    Am I right in thinking that?
