wordpress moving from one server

hi there

have moved a word press blog from one server to another
all went well
imported database
all the categories and post links came up ok but when i click on the links i get 404's
now when i look at the sql file it appears to have all the posts etc there
so not sure what i did wrong
could it be:
i did not set up the permalinks correctly in the new install?
i no longer have access to old hosting account, however since the all the posts are theres etc it makes me wonder what went wrong

any help much appreciated!

    Hi,

    Mouse over the links and look in the bottom address bar of your browser to see where you point. Do they look like this -

    http://www.yournewblog.com/http://ww...om/theblogpost

    See the double http:// in that link. If you see that when you do the mouse over thing then that may be causing the problem. And that would mean you have a permalinks problem.

      Thanks max, no that's not the problem

      the site comes up grand
      categories and recent posts etc show in the sidebar
      however clicking on either gives a 404 error

      so stumpted!

    The problem will most definately be the permalinks
    Have you set the same format on the permalinks as you did previously

    Check to see if you have .htaccess file
    uncomment RewriteBase in .htaccess file by removing # from the RewriteBase line if this is the case

    It may have something to do with your htaccess file.

    If you moved the wordpress blog by doing a DB import, All you need to do is, go to permalinks and hit "Save Options".

    This is a common problem when you migrate wordpress blogs using DB imports.

    as usual thanks to all you warriors

    it's sorted

    i changed the permalink structure to the default
    then changed it back to %postname% and it worked a treat (phew)
