email config query; Hostgator, Outlook & gmail

Hello Warriors

I'm looking at using Outlook for my email, but have a couple of queries...

Should I use Outlook or Outlook Express?

Having decided to use POP3, should I use SSL too?

I use two email systems (Hostgator's webmail service for my domains, and gmail for personal) which i would like to synch for Outlook.

Appreciate any advice, thanks.

  • MS outlook have more control over email than outlook express. I think outlook express re branded to windows mail in Win7. So use MS outlook.

If the email service provider support ssl, yes. But I dont think so.

You can sync several email accounts with outlook. Its your preference to use either Hostgator email or Gmail.

      Hmm

It's so long since I used outlook (OE6)

I just added one of my gmail accounts using the facility in my MSOffice 2010Outlook sofware, and it seems to work, although there appears to be no prompt for user/password.

I "downloaded" the software that was prompted by Hostgator, but get a warning about changes to my system, and can I trust the source. I can only assume the answer is to opt for the "yes".

Yes you can trust the file from Hostgator.

If it doesn't work for some reason and you want to try setting your email account up in Outlook manually here's the info you need.

    Mail Server Username: yourname@yourdomain.com
    Your Password
    Incoming Mail Server: mail.yourdomain.com
    Outgoing Mail Server: mail.yourdomain.com

    That's pretty much it..

Here's a HostGator video tutorial on setting it up in Outlook: tutorials/dns/register/changing-name-servers-via-register
