Would I use the Disavow Tool For This?

One of my sites that was getting about 200 Unique visitors daily through September, dropped to about 12 almost over night. My guess is that it was hit by a google update of some kind. I build very few backlinks to my sites so I didn't think it could be that...

However as I dig deeper into what might be going on I noticed in Webmaster Tools that I have thousands of links from a site in my same niche. They basically put a link to my site on almost every page of their site. Would this be an instance where I should use the disavow tool?

I would try to contact the site owner, but it looks like an auto-blog and I doubt he would do anything about it anyway....

Check the date when your site's traffic dropped. Then check seo blogs to see it that date is within a week or so of a algorithm update. If so, then disavow for sure or start fresh with a new domain.

Yeah, the initial drop coincides with the late Sept Panda release, so it is very likely it is that although the content is fairly high quality.

The confusing part is that this other spam site was launched in late August and he links to my site over 3400 times from gibberish auto blog posts. I don't build a lot of links so of the 3650 links to my site, over 3400 of them are from this crap spam site....

Looking at the disavow tool, it looks like all it really does is make the links nofollow... is it even worth it?

Is the website low quality in nature? If so, this is called "negative seo." Install Google Webmaster Tools and check your spam reports and see if they provide any recommendations for you to take.

His website is total crap... Posts make no sense, just random spun garbage. Then each post has a section that shows the first 100 words or so of 5 other sites(one of them being mine) with a link to those sites. Probably some plug-in that looks for related content then creates authority looking outbound links. There are actually links to my site from about 10 other identical looking sites that I'm sure are owned by the same spammer. Fortunately there are only 1-2 links from each of those.

Anyway, my sites are all in Webmaster Tools but I'm not aware of these "spam reports" you mention? Where do I find them inside WMT?

Yeah. Sure. It's a lousy tool. And google cannot remove spam links from
      a website.

April fools in January. Who knew?

      Meet 2015...same as 2014.

Step into reality people, it's not too late.

You sound like a "woman" with loads of experience with spam links.

Google disavow is the best tool, but it takes two to three months to remove the bad link or spam links.

The disavow tool? Doesn't sound like that's your problem. Even if it was the disavow tool wouldn't help you.

Check other factors and more importantly for notes within WMT. At times you can get hit by a penalty and then not receive a notice for a few weeks after.
