Dominating local searches/keywords

Warriors, I am in the service industry and service a region on the east coast (USA)...What are some key factors in dominating a keyword like "Contractor in Albany NY" on Google?

I do have PR on the first page on most of my key words but would like to move higher up.

    Your Google + page needs to be claimed and completed.
    A few citations.

    Get a link (with recommendation) from some business owner who's got a great business (clients who trust him). Get 2 or 30. (Don't just get links, get links that get you traffic).

    Do good on-page optimization.

    Link to the page you want to rank from other pages/posts on your site (silo style or, if you have lots and lots of pages and posts, any way).

    Hey, that was my keyword phrase, seriously, how did you come up with that as an example. Just curious.

    Actually, I had Newtonville and Latham, and dominated with those.

    To obtain better results search your business related sites and nearby competitors ranking with this keywords and do some competitors link analysis; you might get some quality high end links that will give you an idea that what is lacking at your end. Secondly Do created a Google+ business page with address and verify it. Do some instant PR`s, link this keywords from high quality websites like forum and other blogs. But dont go fast. Ask for recommendations and reviews from your customer and ask them to post same in Business + Page

    see what the keyword density is on the page for both the main and the LSI keywords
    reverse engineer their success
    Generate quality content that engages your audience
    get more quality back links

    Make sure your pages load fast (test it)
    work on your bounce rate

      Good ideas, I've had my Google+ page verified for awhile. I'll start analysis on their backlinks.
