Domain buying newbie...

Hi guys, I think this may be a newbie question...

Lets say I sell action figures, and I want to brand a cool name so I choose something like ToyDaddy.com. Somebody already has this, I'm just using it as an example. Now Toy Daddy sells action figures, star wars, gi joes, etc.

Provided one has the budget, would it be a good strategy to buy search engine phrases as domain names and have it redirected to your site? For example: starwarsactionfigures.com, gijoeactionfigures.com. Or, is not not wise because it confuses your website?

Otherwise, please shed light on how ToyDaddy would pop up if someone searches star wars action figures.

Your time is much appreciated. Thank you!

Having domain names that are search terms redirected to your site does not give a ranking boost to your site. If they have good related links pointing to them, that can give your site a boost.

However, if you do that too much, Google is likely to catch on and not look at it favorably.

You DO NOT want to buy starwarsactionfigures and domains like that. Most of these will be infringing on trademarks and can get you into legal trouble! What you need to do is focus on building backlinks to your website using anchor text with what you want to rank for.

For example, you have ToyDaddy and want it to rank for 'star wars action figures'... You would go out and buy or build links on other websites coming back to yours using the title 'star wars action figures'. Now, assuming you have good unique text on that page which talks about star wars action figures, and your title and content has that keyphrase in it a few times throughout the content - you should rank for it. The harder the competition for a keyphrase, the more backlinks and authority your website is going to need to rank above the others.

A second option would be to look for exact match type domains, like ActionFigures.com or CheapActionFigures.com - names that DO NOT use a specific companies name or trademark.. Then, host those on and link items and stuff back to your main website.

If you want to rank for "star wars action figures", simply create a new page on toydaddy.com and include the aforementioned keyword in the title, then build links to it. No need to buy and redirect domains containing the keyword.

I am looking to buy expired domains for SEO purposes and wondering what actual resource out there is reputable? Any information on this would be appreciated. Thank you!

I would worry less about "reputable" and worry more with the skills, tools and knowledge needed to know what it is you are buying.

You misinterpreted my question. Let me rephrase: What resource do you use for buying expired domains for seo? List your favorite(s) and I'll go through them when you list yours. Thank you.
