The right way to get backlinks with blog comments

This isn't mine, but I got an email about it and checked it out:

http://www.michelfortin.com/flustere...ndly-comments/

As someone who encourages others to comment on blogs to get backlinks AND as someone who runs an arguably "large" network of blogs, I feel this is dead-on.

I got a lot of value out of it, but I know that a lot of people starting out probably wonder what kind of comments bloggers want to publish - by way of telling you what not to do, I think this can help a ton of people here.

P.S. - These same principles of adding value apply to community forums as well as blog comments.

The advantage of having a lot of blogs is seeing the same comments over and over and over again....

search the google then find your site.

Thanks for sharing the list of comments. I'm always lost when it comes to making the comments, now I will just use this list

Yup, that list looks so familiar, I usually just delete those kinds of comments. The spam plugins I have recently installed have helped cut out a lot of the junk comments.

Yeah I guess the best way to get something is to give something that is valuable. Although IMO even if a user just posted something like "Fantastic!" it's already considerable..at least it's not one of those that only say "My blog contains additional information about this at: link" or just "LINK"

Anyways, I'll be doing a blog campaign again soon and this will be useful..

    best wishes

I like Michael's blog.. I've been reading it for a while and lost the link. He nailed it right on the head. I get a lot of those comments too (and see them on WF too!) and some I keep and some I don't. It depends if I know the person. I've also been getting the Nigerian scams via comments too lately.. that's been weird.

I think it's kind of funny that the same people who complain about not getting genuine comments will send their automated email messages out to their list using the firstname code followed by some b.s. "I'm so glad I can talk to you today"...

I guess sincerity is a one way street.

It also works both ways. I've had worthwhile blog comments edited upon moderation to keep the information and then strip out the backlink.

Normally I just email the blog owner to either restore the backlinks or delete my comment entirely which is especially frustrating for someone who's feeling uncooperative.

I do agree with you I usually don;t approved such type of comments in my blog as well. Since its spam and not valuable to my blogs

The reality is that these type of comments are a half baked link building campaign. These blog comments are often a software program that is automated so those link builders are able to offer thousands of links for very low prices. This of course appeals to the webmaster who is trying to achieve a ranking. The problem is whilst you may gain a little momentum in the SERPs, your links have no value and in all likelihood will be deleted. So begins the up and down roller coaster ride for that webmaster. This is a very counter productive exercise and in my opinion a complete waste of time! Alas those services exist and grow daily so the only thing we can do is remind them of the turtle and the hare and watch them scratch their heads in confusion.
