Multiple keywords contained in longtail keywords

I'm a SEO novice really, and I suspect that my question is maybe simple, but I'm just not sure and I'm unable to find the answer to the following situation ...

toyota hilux canopy for sale >> monthly ZA search volume = 140 (competition = high)
canopy for sale >> monthly ZA search volume = 1,000 (competition = high)
hilux canopy >> monthly ZA search volume = 320 (competition = medium)
toyota hilux canopy >> monthly ZA search volume = 170 (competition = medium)

My question is this ... if page is optimized for "toyota hilux canopy for sale" >> then is it also automatically optimized for the other 3 keywords mentioned in this example?
#contained #keywords #longtail #longtail keywords #multiple #multiple keywords

    No.
If you optimize your page for "toyota hilux canopy for sale"

    then
    1. toyota hilux canopy for sale - is an exact match keyword for your page ( specific long tail keyword )
    2. canopy for sale - is a broad match keyword for your page ( generic keyword )

When you optimize for a long tail, specific term you are much less optimized for a generic version of that keyword.

However this does not mean that you will not rank for "canopy for sale". You may rank for the generic keyword in case the competition is too low.

But if there is significant competition ( like in most markets ), in order to target a short tail generic keyword you need "separate content" for that.

Hi Silverm, a very nice and brief answer, I have a another question related to this one , If we write separate content for that generic keyword, Will it be known as 2 posts on same 1 keyword? I mean I have seen my friend got penalized by google for writing more articles on a same keyword ..
Should it be safe to write new content on genetic keyword which is already covering in long tail keyword on another post ?
