Hi Guy/Girls

Is it a good idea to link to page a few times in one post using a variety of related anchor texts aswell as the main keyword you are trying to target

or is better to link to a page with just one keyword as the anchor text throughout the post

Many Thanks

The commonly accepted position on this is that only the FIRST link to any URL counts.

If you link to your home page (YourPage.com) three times in a blog post or article with the anchor text keywords of "Keyword1", "Keyword2", and "Keyword3"...then only "Keyword1" will get any love from google.

The devil is in the details and the key is the "URL" part...as I didn't say "site".

Let's say you link to three different pages on your site with 3 different keywords. You link to YourPage.com with Keyword1, you link to YourPage.com/InterestingArticle.html with Keyword2, and you link to YourPage.com/FunQuiz.php with Keyword3.

In this example, all three pages would get some type of credit as they are three separate and distinct URLs.

Remember though...there is only so much Link Juice (or "Authority) on any given page. If you put three links on a single page, then the power of each link is diluted by 1/3 because the limited amount of Link Juice on that page is flowing out through three pipes instead of one.

    It really depends...

For higher competition keywords, you should always vary a bit, because the link diversity is very important in long term SEO, or you might not see consistent and stable ranking for your keywords.

Highly competitive keywords will not rank well if all your links are the same! It is not natural to see 10K links with the same keyword, better to have 10% ~ 20% of variety...

It is better to dominate one keyword rather than a few.

Linking to a web page a few times in a post will not work, Google will only take one link only.

But its ok to have a few links, if you want the readers to take action like in a sales page.

Of course you will need to do keyword research first then you will know which is the best keyword to use.

I have recently purchased a keyword research tool, and here is the review of keyword research pro.

    Hi Shevd,

I usually link my page twice per post.
First with my main keyword phrase and second with the raw URL.

I also mix it up a bit by sometimes linking with a variation of my target phrase and terms like "click here".

I also try to mix things up to make it look more natural.

You may want to mix it up slightly to make it look natural if your worried. However i predominantly focus on using my main keyword phrase i am targeting as the anchor text most of the time.

I agree with what "The Expert" is saying although I've seen some circumstances where multiple links on a page to the same URL with different keywords have been effective. This has been with low volume long tail phrases, not powerful keywords though.

For example, if you had a link to "Credit Repair" and then a link to "West Hollywood Credit Repair Service" both seem to have been counted. But, if you had "Credit Repair" and another higher volume keyword like "bad credit repair" then only one seems to be effective.

It is true and that it is totally depend on choice of keywords, if you have keyword with high search volume then that through that keyword you will get backlinks as it depends on no. of clicks whch increases the traffic that increases search volume.

      Thanks!!

In my experience you should go with 70 / 30 - we usualy optimze our sites for 2 or 3 very similar high traffic keywords (usualy it is more 2) - so our rule is -> 70% same anchor text like lastminute flights (optimzing for the KW: lastminute flights) and 30% with something else... - if only use your KW it looks like Spam and you can experience negative results
