I have no clue what any of this has to do with SEO being any different in 2018 than it was in 2017 than it was in 2016 ...

Yours is a nice list, too. My objection is that these lists are no different than what we were doing in 2017, 2016 and earlier. There is nothing "2018" about them.

Dave... your the content guy here.. you know as well as everyone else..a title that says "2018" will probably get clicked on more than one that does not... We all know its the same stuff... Its all about having content that as re hashed as it may be.. appear current.

Did you read #11 in the list above? republishing old ( 2017 2016 and older ) material with new and current material has an increase of 111% ( ok yeah sure ) in traffic growth.

Uhm, #11 was about local listings.

Sure, if you think a ton of people are using 2018 as a a part of what they are entering as a search phrase, go for it. I'm not sure how you think republishing old content with a new name does much for your credibility, though. The point of republishing old content is to update it with new stuff. There isn't anything "new" in 2018, though it is just as "current" as it was a year or two ago. I know, I know, everybody else does it so it must be what you need to do.

And of course, I'm not sure what publishing it on Warrior Forum does for you if it is a phrase you want to rank for. Too many people here think this is their blog.

Memo to people who like to publish their "articles" here: Maybe think about getting your own blog and publishing it there!

I keep reading this.. oh nothing new... nothing nothing nothing... hmmm where should we start... longer Description tags... I know I know nothing to do with SEO... but more text gives the ability to better explain the page and possibly increase clicks no? sounds pretty SEO to me. Then there is the whole "ccTLD" shake up.... not such a big deal in the states so much, but in Europe..this is a real BIG deal.

( My biggy with ccTLD changes has been having the ability to check customers positioning. If you goto say google.ca and look for a plumber.. you will get your local listings now )

Hmm what ese.. featured snippets took a dive, and knowledge panels saw a dramtic increase. I know no one will want to hear this but to more than some extent serp listings or should I say about 50% of page one serp listings are "Https" now - but thats right.. its not a ranking factor at all.

They are still plowing through sections of the net with RankBrain... believe it or not.. there is a considerable difference between LSI and Rankbrains synonym / language based learning. LSI was a static list, and RankBrain would be well, not static.

The new rankbrain changes in a niche I do some work in, came through 2 weeks ago... 8 of the 10 top 10 listings.. gone.

So then back to "changing the title of a page" I am sure people do just that... but understandably thats not overly effective. But taking some older content that just sint getting the click thrus anymore ( you do SEO, you keep track of this stuff right ) So maybe its time for a quick revamp, and make the title more current. Seriously forget about position ( to some extent ) and worry more about click thru rate.. and this strategy starts to make a bit more sense.

Thanks for not iterating a single thing new in 2018. A few things that you perceive as dramatically significant in 2017 were mentioned (they weren't to the vast majority of the internet and certainly not to the masses on this forum). But where is your 2018? That is what this thread is supposed to be about, after all.

You want one? I'll give it to you ... Google's goal of a mobile-first indexing algorithm never came to fruition in 2017. In fact, they said it may be "many quarters away". Still, one could project that they somehow get it together and it is finally a reality in 2018. If that's the case, that will be what is new in 2018, at least in terms of what matters to the internet and SEO as a whole - not to a select set of isolated cases or assumptions that changes to Rank Brain are what caused the demise of sites you monitor.

As I understand it, RankBrain is most at play for ambiguous search queries where Google is not sure what the searcher is looking for. Is that what you are really optimizing around? Oh, and I can't help but wonder what inside information you have about "new" RankBrain changes - ones so profound, they recently changed the positioning of sites you monitor.

Oh, and most of us were able to get pretty decent click-through rates with the previous meta description limitations. Longer meta descriptions hardly equate to better click through rates. They only equate to even fewer page one ranking positions and more people saying in 30 words what could be said in 20.

Anyway, my objection to posts like this is and always will be that people can barely figure out what is going on with Google's algorithm as it exists today. Predicting what it will be in the coming year is flat out ludicrous.

You did not test all of them at the end of the year.

If you did, let's hear the details of your tests.

How did you test them? What were the results?

Only for those stuck in the pre-time travel era! To the rest of us, that's a piece of cake, easy peasy, nothin' to it.

Doubtful because there isn't really anything new in 2018.

      That's our point.

        New in 2018!

Type DABK in front of every keyword in your alt text; that way Google will know I know you and will move you up 30 spots per occurrence (as long as there are no more than 7 DABK's per page and assuming you had a no-salt Denver omelette no earlier than 6:12 AM but no later than 8:42 AM (Beijing time). Sorry; I tried and tried but I just couldn't talk Google into letting you jump 30 spots just for the DABK part.

        You're welcome!
