The best way to get .edu sites to link to you is by postimg comments on their blogs with links to your site(assuming its nit spam), how do you find them?

type the following in google:

site:edu inurl:blog "leave a comment" -"comments closed" -"you must be logged in to comment"

this will open lots of links to .edu sites and you can post comments on them(again it should not be spam otherwise they wont be approved)

Problem is finding sites that are not already spammed and thus devalued by the search engines.

Most edu blogs your comment will not approved unless it is relavent and provides value. I do have lot of do follow links which I got by commenting on Edu blogs. Of course I find blogs related to my niche.

While the above google technique might get you might links but you have go beyond that to find real juice you need. Time consuming though.

But most likely you are going to find no follow link on .edu or .gov websites as they want to avoid spams.
