Help! Ad groupings? Keyword tool and where to find them?

I get more confused as I search the threads. It seems like it might be obvious but I'm still missing it.

My question is: How do I get my google keyword tool results to show keywords by groups?

Let's say I put in my website and have the tool search my site for suggested keywords. How can I get it to show me keywords sorted by group so there is (for example)...

Keywords related to how to raise porcupines - sorted by relevance

how to raise porcupines
how to raise porcupines right
learn to raise porcupines
(etc)

Keywords related to raise porcupines - sorted by relevance

raise porcupines now
raise porcupines right
want to raise porcupines
(etc)

Keywords related to learn to raise porcupines - sorted by relevance

learn to raise porcupines today
(and so on...)

So how come I don't see this (and how can I?) as opposed to what I do see...one long list of keywords?

Do I choose the keywords in bold? And somehow do searches on those? Can Google suggest those keywords for me to get the other ones as well?

Again, the only step I take is to give Google my site and have it suggest for me. I'd like to get them grouped if I can like shown above.

Thanks for your help...

    Hello Nathan,

Tick Only show ideas closely related to my search terms option in the keyword tool.

Generally you start with broader keywords then break it down.

So you could start with porcupines and leave the Only show ideas closely related to my search term unticked.

Note down interesting keywords that you like in a text file.

Then take each of those keywords if you are happy you have some decent ones, TICK Only show ideas closely related to my search term then type EACH keyword you found to get more accurate keywords for specific ad groups or whatever you like.

The main thing here is you need to TICK and UNTICK Only show ideas closely related to my search term as needed.

If you have any other questions just PM me, AdWords is overly complicated for a newbie but it does give you a lot more granular control when you understand how it all fits together.

    Hey Alan,

If that's the case any suggestions on "pleasing" Google content PPC campaigns? I thought that'd be a good idea to give Google exactly what they want so the ad groups are specific and relevant by letting them choose the keywords to include.

Yeah I'm kinda bummed about it, the old keyword tool was a lot better at doing some things. The only thing I could think of was using the Wonder Wheel and drilling down, but that's really tedious. I think some keyword software tools might do it, like keywordelite, but I don't do PPC so I'm not sure, I'm not really that into that stuff. Hopefully someone into PPC will chime in.

      Hi Nathan,

      It doesn't work like that.

      This is what relevancy means.

      Adgroup: Canon digital cameras
      Keyword: Canon digital cameras
Ad Copy: Has Canon digital cameras in there, makes your ad highlight, helps with clickthrough rate.
Landing Page: Ideally has title and text related to canon digital cameras
Bid Price: Something that would ideally put you in the top 4 positions especially if its a new account and has no history.

Relevancy is how the keyword matches your ad copy and landing page.

Bid price plays the next important factor to quality score and then CTR once you start generating clicks.

The only reason to make small ad groups is to a) Match keyword to ad copy b) be able to split test ad copy easier.

For instance if you clump your keywords together like:

      canon digital cameras 0.7% CTR
      "canon digital cameras" 1.6% CTR
      [canon digital cameras] 4.7% CTR

It becomes impossible to split test ad copy correctly.

Say you want to clump other keywords in there that are similar.

      [canon digital camera lens]
      [canon camera accessories]

You can't write targeted ad copy for that, yes CANON, DIGITAL, CAMERA will highlight in the text but it's not near as relevant as it could be and those keywords would have different landing pages on a retail site.

Are you trying to use the automated adwords group maker in AdWords Editor?
