a tip for adsense publishers

Often I see adsense ads on sites that are new or for some reason google has not found relevant ads for your site. By default Google will display public service ads. unfortunately they do not offer any value as I don;t think it has any CTR or sometimes the ads don't make sense (i know the irony) at all.

You can get some real value of this real estate ad space. When you setup ads or edit the ads you will find a section like this.

select show image from another URL as I have done in this picture and enter a URL for your banner.
for example:
"check out some great stunt videos over at MyGreatVids.in"

Give it a url of a banner image where you can put any of your other site's name clearly

so you can cross advertise if you have another site or even something like (questions? please email someone@someplace.org) for your site.

You can make such text banners at http://bannerfans.org online in standard sizes and host them at 3ezy.net which allows hotlinking and is generally faster than most hosts. plus it doesn't display some weird message if there is a problem (like imageshack does).
tip for 3ezy: when you see the original picture page just right click the full picture and copy the image url to clipboard. dont use the thumbnail. hotlink is allowed.

It builds the idea that this space is important subconsciously and may even generate more regular ad clicks.

note: these images are not click-able so use a memorable domain name. In traditional advertising like TV we call it building recall power. its a form of advertising where repeated messages result in automatic recall.

hope it helps.

That is a great tip, public service ads are a nice gesture of charity as well though.

I agree. But from my experience no one has one adsense unit on a page. so if you can spare one for public service it should be enough.
