I was pondering a challenge I am facing in ranking for a certain keyword phrase.

The question is this...

Say I create a domain that has my targeted keyword phrase in it and put good quality content to match and build some back links, you know the whole seo thing.

THEN....

Once the site start ranking do a 301 redirect to the actual site I want people to arrive to.

Will this effect the ranking and seo power of the original site at all or would I be golden.

Any one who knows this it would be very helpful before I actually do all the work. lol

Thanks in Advance.

My experience: I had an EMD ranking #1 for its keyword. I got a C&D and had to change the site - but kept the domain name. I did a 301 to a new page on another domain. The ranking was never the same (2nd page) even after 12 months of the change being implemented.

Some others may have more experience they can share but I wouldn't expect a perfect switch-over.

You kept the domain, but what about the content.

My idea is to keep the content on all the pages for domain I am targeting so it won't ever go anywhere and I'll still be able to add content to the site re-directing.

    this wont work.

Google will eventually re analyse your website and remove the 301 site from google.

While you will keep your backlinks, you will loose all the onsite elements such as the ranking from your domain and content.

All that happens is that the backlinks are passed onto the new site, and all the onsite calculations are then done on the new site.

So essentially I loose the exact match power of the first domain then. ugg

That makes no sense. Why not start doing that with the site you want people to
go to in the first place? Everyone here knows I am not keen on any domain giving
a boost. Even some of the big boys here who tout that as something, readily
use theirname.com as a website. Why? Hmmmm. No matter.

Web pages are ranked. Not domains.

You should keep the site intact. And keep going with the SEO on the site.
    Skip the proposed "new" one.
