Does changing your WP theme mess with your SERPs?

I've been running my website's auction and just got this question, "How much does changing the theme hurt rankings?"

I've been ranking #1 in Google and others for over a year for my main keyword, but I've never changed my original theme.

Does is actually have an effect if the SEO data and content stays the same?

    Yes it does! Not very drastically but to some extend it sure does depending on
    the architecture of the new theme...

    It can yes, from my experience certain themes are more search engine friendly
