So I was about to spend money on text-link-ads.com so I can send traffic to one of my sites and I wanted to know about any tips, guides and discounts. After searching for some terms, I came across this from google forum/support:

Text-link-ads.com Gets Our Site Penalized by Promoting Tagged.com - Webmaster Central Help

The support says that text-link-ads.com shows a special code that google will see and automatically throw up red flags to a certain degree which can and some have already experienced a the banning or de-indexing of sites for key terms and phrases.

Does anyone know about this and if it is really that bad that it could ban our sites?

I had seen the dates which indicated 2010...but i wanted to know if anyone is feeling the affects of using there services as a advertiser?

And if you are feeling any effects as a publisher?

Can anyone comment?

    I can't confirm from personal experience but have heard of many sites being deindexed for buying/selling text link ads. Not just from TLA. I guess G feels a text link is deceptive because it appears like a normal link, while everyone knows a paid banner ad is an ad.

      Yes! They are that bad. True SEO experts like Dan Thies and Jerry West strongly advise against buying links. You can work on a site for years, have thousands of other links - and get de-indexed by Google for using these kinds of links. We all do lots of things that Google doesn't really like, but these links are ridiculously easy to catch. Yes, people do manage to get by with this and your buddy who has a website might rave about the value of these links. But sites on the first two pages are highly likely to get caught - and where else do you want to be than on the front pages?

    Text-link-ads.com is where you can send your competition and then sit back, relax and take over their organic search engine position within the next six months.

    Seriously, it's that bad.

    Or this:

    "Last we started to sell links via text-link-ads.com for some additional income.

    I cannot say for certain that this caused the problem, but it seems like it did. Our PageRank has dropped from a PR4 to a PR0 in less than a year.

    Our traffic has dropped from over 75k+ unique hits a day to just barely 20k+"

    Or this:

    "I've been using Text Link Ads on some of my websites, they were all PR4 and getting to a PR5. Now they are loosing PR, maybe becuase of the TLA code I use, PR2 is now what I have on 3 of them."

  • Most if not all of these text link networks, that automatically change out links using a php or code snipit I would STAY AWAY FROM AT ALL COSTS. Textlinkads is not the first one of these networks to get busted by Goog for selling links, there are countless others networks that have.

    If your going to purchase links I would only get them from private individuals that manually put them into their pages, hence limiting the "footprint."

    I've been a publisher on 1 of my sites for nearly 2 years.

    I can tell you that google would not be able to detect the links as they are of the form

    <ul>
    <li><a href="site.com">Keywords</a></li>
    </ul>

    Also, if you can ban a site by buying links then what would stop you buying links to your competitors and getting them de-listed.

      Google doesn't like people buying links, unless they buy links through AdWords.

      Dan's content is irregularly read by handfuls of people. Join the elite few by reading his blog: dcrBlogs.com, following him on Twitter: dcrTweets.com or reading his fiction: dcrWrites.com but NOT by Clicking Here!

      Dan also writes content for hire, but you can't afford him anyway.
