One site or multiple sites best for seo?

I have a scenario that I always struggle with, and could use an answer to it. I create small niche blogs on different products, but I have always wondered which of these two is better.

If I want to sell a weight loss product, and I have chosen 5 good keywords with good searches, and average competition, which scenario is best?

Create one blog, with a related domain name, like "weight loss center", with separate posts for each of the five keywords,

OR

Buy 5 separate domain names, and create 5 separate sites, each having one of the keywords in the domain name, or a close variation, and write a couple of posts, all focused on that one keyword used in the domain, with slightly different titles.

The reason I ask is this. I have been building blogs for a couple of years, and I have always done each blog on one keyword. I now have about 90 blogs, and it is hard to keep up with them all, and with google's recent shuffle of the deck, a lot of them took a hit.

I am wondering if I would do better by building one blog per topic, with multiple pages on related, but different keywords. Maybe google would even favor that over my usual two or three page sites. I would only have one site per topic to deal with, and could add 15 or 20 pages over time.

I am just not sure if this type of site does as well as building separate sites for each keyword.

Thanks in advance for your opinion
Glenn

I would not spread your blogs out that far. I think one blog or website per niche is plenty. You can always connect a store to a blog or just add one more domain to make a unique ecommerce store.

I would stick to one blog per topic and target specific keywords on each PAGE. Use the PAGE title and PAGE URL to target your keywords.

From my experience you are better off sticking to one domain and create separate pages for the keywords for each niche

When you pick your five keywords, look at a much broader level and see if you can find categories or silos. Maybe you can find two to three categories with each category clustered around five related keywords. This way you are targeting about 15 keywords in that niche.
Siloing is the way to go

I suggest having one blog for a broad niche and then several posts with long tail keywords

I would say do both... create your niche blogs focussed on a few keywords and have them all feed into a larger site that can cover them all. That way you can post similar content on your main site and your micro niche sites. Plus, it allows you to build a list from each micro site, but all of the lists can be augmented together. This will cut down on the amount of autoresponder campaigns that you will need to manage.

As an added bonus, you can create a single newsletter that highlights one post per micro site so that you introduce your visitors to all of your sites, which improves you chances of converting them into sales.
