SEO Slave, BringtheBlog, and others?

I have started doing freelance work for a real estate agent, and man oh man, this guy has gone berserk signing up for every marketing/SEO tool he could find. I'm not sure if his Web designer suggested them or if he found them on his own.

I have been trying to research them, but would appreciate your feedback.

SEO Slave - seems to be Black Hat link building, is that right?

BringTheBlog - I found out that their content is not original, and in fact their articles are ALL over the web - if I'm trying to drive NEW traffic to the site (not loyal readers), then this is no good, correct?

Beyond those two, he's signed up for FIVE more services that are real-estate specific, but they really seem to overlap. I think he could be saving a TON of money by using his resources in a more White Hat, cut the excess, manner.

I'm thinking that rather than have regurgitated blog posts, he'd be better off using a freelance writer that can write original content for him specific to his market.

Also, is there any short-cut way to manage craigslist ads? (App?)

I'm also thinking he might try doing link exchanges with specific companies (or even paid advertising if it was cheap enough).

I don't know - his site is such a mess, and he's got his eggs in SO many baskets, I almost don't know where to begin. Any help you can offer would be tremendous. Thanks!

begin by cleaning the mess if he wont give you time to clean the mess then just proceed with your own process.

He's actually really wonderful - he basically told me I can work a 40 hour week until we get this settled. Couldn't come at a better time! I'm cancelling both of the subscriptions in the post title today. I'm going to really dive into the others as well. He's got a HUGE list of things for me to do, so I'm hoping this'll be a semi-long-term gig.

Write down your approach and give it to him. Your the SEO person in charge of promoting his site. You take over. Don't ever let clients bully you. I let this happen once to me - and we ended up going no where.

He's really not bullying me. He just doesn't have the time or know-how to do what he wants me to do. He's pretty much giving me free reign. He gave me the go-ahead to hire (like on TextBroker.com) writers to do 100 articles for his site. For today, I'm pulling together keywords, putting up a couple of craigslist ads and doing the basic SEO on his existing site. I mean, right now there are no keywords, no title, and no description on his site. His web designer flaked on him.

It's a lot of work, but I think so long as I keep him posted and make progress, we'll be okay.

I'm thinking first I'm going to try and get him ranked on lesser competitive keywords that should still drive relevant traffic and then work on the more competitive keywords once I've got a better ranking in Alexa for him. Truth is, I'm pretty new to this too, so I'm floundering a bit. I want to make sure I only use white-hat techniques so he's running a really solid, content-rich, relevant site. I think I can do it, but it's going to take some time. I think he's anticipating the ranking will go up super-quick, but I'm trying to calm his excitement about that. I know it's going to be a process. I'm just hoping I can show him some improvement over then next few months.

Any tips on what my first priorities should be besides adding keyword-rich content to the site?
