Hello, i am the current owner of a long domaine name like : sales-to-choose.com
In my exemple, it is PR3 and 3 years old.

Let's admit it talks about sales and i have found a better domain name like :
'on sales", but it is only available with the .net extension.

Would you 301 your website for onsales.net ?
Do you believe it worth the pain ? (I can wait 2 months for the linkjuice to move)

I would suggest you continue with your first one and focus on SEO. You may find many similar domain names and may look better too. But forget about them and focus on one you have.

I am also agree with Giani that changing Domain will not be a good option. Domain should be changed in very rare case. I also thinks that changing from .com extension to .net extension is surely not a good idea. your site is of PR3 and doing well then why you are bothering. Just have an right kind of Seo campaign to boost it again.

There is no reason to start from scratch. You can always get the name and set up a landing page and do the seo work for it as well if you are looking to cash in on it as well. It seems that your site is doing well, I would just leave it alone and keep working on your SEO.

301 will not pass 100 % link juice.
.net is not a good choice. it depends on the domain name. in the future if you really get a good domain you can rethink about this.
getafreelancer.com moved to freelancer.com when they able to secure the later.

I have the same issue +- the domain was not renewed on time - but to recover the domain name I now need to bid (!) to get it back at godaddys ...so that means spending more money

If you don't get control of that expired domain then you cannot redirect traffic to a new domain. You have a 2 week redemption period at Godaddy that allows you to retain the name, if that redemption period has expired, then yes, you will have to bid for it, or hope no one else does. If it's a good name and you have a lot invested then it's a no-brainer. However, if you can start over from scratch on a new domain for less money and resources, let it go.
