Google Plus Members Show In Search Results

I just came across results with what looked like bloggers faces next to the search results. Never seen this till today and I do not know these people, so its not like they are a google plus friend. When I click on their face it takes me to their google plus account. This is very interesting in terms of future blogger branding.

anyone else notice this?

    Thats pretty cool.

I wonder did they link the search result page to their google plus account. Seems like the only way it could happen.

I also wonder if they knew in advance this would happen.

    Good find!

Just did a search for social network to see if I would get a similar result and indeed on the second page of results was a profile pic. Interesting fellow too so added him to my circles. This would definitely be an advantage, at least until the serps start filling up with everyone's pics.

It's something Google rolled out not too long ago, I read a post on it awhile back, here's the blog post on how to do it: Show Author Profile Picture Next To Google Search Results | Blogger Widgets, Tricks and Templates

Yes, this is Google's new "Author" feature. You don't have to have a G+ account to use it, just a Google Profile. You create a two way link between your profile and all the sites you want linked to your profile.

For instance, if you have a blog, squidoo, and hubpages account, you link to those in your profile. Then, in each article you write for any of those sites you link TO your profile using a special code.

After that you fill out some form for Google for them to review your profile and the content you linked. If your profile has a good picture in it, they will start using that next to search results for your content.

This can draw more attention to your serp if you're not too ugly.

This will also trigger a lot more Google+ signups from people wanting to connect with site or blog owners.

I wonder how long it will be before you start seeing all sorts of flashing arrows and psychedelic colors to draw attention to the results.

I've noticed a few of those. Can't quite figure out how it's supposed to help us search better but anyway...

What really caught me off guard was the images in the sidebar ads. Have they always had those?

As long as there are only one or two. But you'll soon tune them out when you start getting pages and pages of them. Maybe it's just me.

The images I was talking about weren't actually photos of authors. These were product photos in the ads in the sidebar of the google search results. You know, the ads that are paid to show up. I'd never seen an image there before.

See it just Google trying to get more social. They are integrating lots of stuff along with the Google +1s to make the Search Experience Sociable.
