Google Keyword Tool Wrong??

ive become a little skeptical to find out that i have a site ranked number 3 that is getting about 13 searches a day. according to the google kw tool this search gets 8100 exact match searches on average a month and the trend is fairly even throughout the year. is google that inacurate? i know it will never be right on but whats the deal?

Edit: I could be wrong because I had forgotten my domain expired and probably dropped in the rankings. I haven't consistently been keeping track of it but currently sits at number 3 and it may have been jumping around in the rankings this past year.

Yes, Google's keyword tool can be very incorrect. Since #1 tends to get about 30-40% of the traffic of all searches, that should be 8100/30*0,3 = 81 visits a day for you, which is more than 6 times higher than your actual traffic.

I've made this experience myself, it can be pretty disappointing ...

Yeah, looking at the Traffic Estimator I was surprised to see a keyword with monthly searches of around 4,000 for an ad ranking in spot 1 would only provide a couple clicks a day.

You also have to keep in mind that you're looking at an average over a 12 month period. So, maybe the majority of your keywords searches came in August which is bumping up the total monthly average.

No keyword tool is 100% accurate and I've seen what you are talking about with some of my keywords from time to time as well. One thing though is the amount of traffic you receive drops dramatically from the first position to the third position. Another thing to consider is whether or not the title and description of your site displayed in the results are really what the searcher is looking for.

Just remember that Google is a business that makes most of its money from advertisers who advertise using data and services from inside adwords, while it may seem interesting to "plugin to a tool" the truth is that it is not in the best interest of a business to publish its laundry for the world to see...

So, actually you may never get a clear view of what is actually happening, behind the curtain...

That is just the way it is, )

I had the similar problem but i went one step further and used wordtracker and a few other keyword tools and all showed about 98 searches for a keyword that shows 22,000 searches in Google keyword tool. What's that all about? Yes I tried exact, match, and phrase and all were completely off by a mile. Can anyone explain? This has nothing to do with first or third position as everybody else is talking about but rather discrepancies that are off by eons when compared to other research tools. What am I doing wrong?
