adsense filtering dilemma

I was going to filter out 2 VERY UNRELATED ads on one of my sites but then I remembered they are relevant advertisers on other domains that are in the same adsense acct.

Isn't that ridiculous to have unrelated ads appear on unrelated sites and you cannot filter them out if on the wrong site. Why would these advertisers bid on unrelated pages? There is no correlation.

My Back-up ads field says to use blank space, NOT other ads from other URLs.

I sent them a report to correct this. We'll see what happens. Weren't they good about 5 yrs ago. Now G0og*le is a real pain.

    you may or may not be aware that google will show ads on your screen even if it is on your site that is relevant to your searches...meaning...
    if you were looking at your other website prier to opening the website you mentioned, google will still try to be ahead of you in predicting what you are looking for...so...

    you have to clear your history and and try again....also be sure to have signed out of in gmail account.

    keep this in mind when you are typing in a search term in a browser. if you have a gmail account that you are not signed out of you can get a false ranking is the search.

    now if you have been into your adsense account and turned this off.....never mind

      Well, they still missed it then. I was logged into my gmail acct but no emails pertained to IT jobs, jobs, education, loan mods or business capital.

      interest based ads I guess. So, how do we opt out/turn off acct out of interest based or their predictability of what I am interested in.

      Really, they were better years ago. The new email interface is crappy, the new analytics too. Now I need to make multiple clicks to find overview, traffic, etc.
      They just keep growing reasons to find alternates. They should stick to android phones and smart cars b/c their new designs/innovations in email and analytics do not help.

      They are steadily being taken off my sites as I discover other monetization ways. I am a little guy in revenue for them so I am sure the big guys are already doing this too.

        The filtering is indeed a dilemma.

        I too was getting slammed with car insurance ads,
        even though that site had zip to do with car insurance.
        Another page, different site, had such a car insurance
        page.

        I bit the bullet and banned them all. There are a zillion
        car insurance ads anyway. Not sure what was triggering
        them.

        Turning off interest based ads does almost nothing, as
        google will toss whatever they want.

        One thing you could do, is allow google to show anything
        they want, block nothing. Even have image and text.

        This experiment is not for the faint of heart. You need to
        let it ride for one month and see if it makes a difference
        or not. I did this, one month. The first week was a tad
        better than usual, but then it slowly sank below sea level.

        If you get a local ad, remember, you are probably the only
        one seeing it, and, you can't block other local ads for other
        people as you have no idea where they live and what they
        see.

        Google's whole premise is based on user-interest ads.

        They are billion$ $ucce$$ful at this. Can I really be a judge
        as to what ads my users may click on? I dunno. I've
        pondered that question a lot. Plus, you block ads that are
        actually showing, and you have made room for LESSER
        cost ads. It's a catch-22.

    It is likely because the advertiser is using retargeting. So if you visit a car insurance site or something related you may then see car insurance ads on unrelated sites because you are being retargeted with that advertisers ads.

      Thing is, I have never ever visited a car insurance site in my life that I can recall.

      I do know that strange things happen with ads, which makes the ad filter
      indeed a dilemma. You don't know everything to block.

        I tried the image and text, banned certain categories too. It is not working. I do agree there is a catch-22 when you filter them out. But, hey I want relevancy.

        I am doing like you; taking them off slowly for better monetization. I am no soothsayer but their interest based ads may be the signal of their stock decline. OTOH, they have done lots of research into this so WTHDIK. It doesn't matter I don't want "IT jobs" or loan mods advertised on an unrelated site + something I never searched for online or looked at in emails.

        G was always shouting to us to have relevant content on our site, wonder wheel, related searches, etc but it doesn't apply when it is adsense? They are also about no spamming the web.
        They spam the hell out of my gmail accts with Adwords advertising coupns.
        I remember something one IT guy I worked with in the early 90s. He looked at Apple's stock around $11 and said, "Poor apple". It is poor Yahoo now, but maybe one day or decade later, we'll see the fall from grace of G*oogle to what Mr softy is today.which is dead money for 10 years. The data shows that most bear markets are 16 years on avg. after a big bull market.
