Website Traffic: Is It The Most Important Thing?
- SEO |
If a brilliant marketing guy only gets 10 daily visitors to his website, he may not make a dime in a long period of time.
So, where do we draw the line? Are all our efforts ultimately to do with the skill of generating traffic? First, I respect all WSO creators at making an attempt, and the time it takes to make them; good or bad.
But would the fool who is already generating 1 million daily visitors need that advice at all? (Hypothetically speaking, please don't quote.)
Would the brilliant marketer guy really need a WSO? With his non-existing traffic, would he be able to benefit from this knowledge?
As I welcome new knowledge from other people and resources on the Internet, and look at my own experience, one thing becomes crystal clear. Traffic may be the answer to everything. It is important. It is incredibly difficult to build. But it is not impossible, and if we follow some rules, we can build tons of traffic... ultimately, so that we can sell it.
But how do we generate it?
Some examples of where the traffic can come from:
1) Organic traffic from Search Engines determined by back-links.
2) Newsletter followers open links to your site in every 'episode'.
3) Twitter, Facebook, StumbleUpon, etc.
After years of observing traffic patterns on my own websites, that together generate between 4,000 - 5,000 daily visitors now, it has occurred to me, that traffic is really everything that I have. I wouldn't be able to experiment with newsletter forms, I wouldn't be able to make money with AdSense and Kontera, I wouldn't be able to make money with Amazon.
Listen to this. It's interesting.
SEO experts can generate traffic. But because they are not experts at Internet marketing in general, they sell their services to other companies so that those companies can sell their products by using this traffic. Lol.
Internet marketing experts are great at making people sign up to their newsletters and sell e-books. But they are not experts at SEO! Is that why they mostly sell products that are to do with Internet marketing? Lol.
Some people are better at things that other people are not good at. And all are selling services and their skills to the ones who are clueless about them. But we don't often see someone who is good at everything.
We can post some back links back to our sites ourselves, it has even been proven that "no follow" link optimization somewhat works (by doing actual experiments). This will get us started, maybe some sites will start receiving 100 daily visitors, maybe even 500 or who knows, get lucky and hit 1,000?... all from our personal efforts. Now that we have some traffic going, what do we do, buy another WSO?
I don't think so. So, what are we to do? What is the ultimate solution for someone who is passionate about making websites, generating traffic and profit from it? How can we generate large amounts of traffic?
The Solution(s)
Value of words and understanding the reality of their true meaning.
An understanding, physical practice and belief in (as values) in following, is at the core of success with traffic.
You may say that these solutions may not seem directly linked to generating website traffic. . . at all. . . and you will be right. They are not. But I believe this is at the core of success of any business.
Using all of the things mentioned below together in unity is the key. But hey, what do I know?
1. HONESTY
I propose that the solution number one to generating website traffic is honestly. Honesty with ourselves in being creative and productive, so that we can also be fulfilled by what we do, help others, and in the process, really, as a side effect only, earn money. To only market and distribute real knowledge, not a dream or a promise. . . should be our goal. I suggest that that every product being offered for sale to include a TOC (table of contents) to the potential interested party or some type of a preview. It is your responsibility to make such a product, that when you preview it, it looks desirable to the potential buyer. If you don't give them a preview, and end up disappointing the buyer, then you are not being honest with your audience. Your reputation cannot grow this way, you are running in circles making small amounts, or even big amounts, of money (however consistent) by lying to others. You are probably doing that because you don't have real....
2. KNOWLEDGE
I propose that the second solution to effective Internet marketing is knowledge. When you have knowledge, what you say or do sounds and appears to be authentic - because it really is. And it is also appealing to the reader (or receiver of your information, whichever way that is: videos, podcasts, etc.), they can sense that you are a reliable source. You say things that make sense, because they feel they are learning from you. They can sense that you know things they don't, and they realize that they are learning from you.
But how can we achieve that type of status? Well, knowledge is acquired by learning. Everyone knows this but most people don't know how to learn.
It's unfortunate that so many kids are not taught how to learn in school. Ironically that is true. If a school is the place you go to learn things, then why do they not teach how to learn? Why do they only tell us what to learn? In my experience, knowledge comes at a price of time and effort. I go to these forums, articles, and I spend many hours in some type of a meditative creative thinking state. I can literally feel the load of information on my brain. That is when I know I am learning.
Learning is such an elusive thing. You can never really identify what it is exactly you know or how much of it you know. This is why it's so difficult to stay motivated to learn. When we learn something, how can we ever feel rewarded for our knowledge, so that we can stay motivated to continue learning.... if we cannot measure it? What if... measuring things is a road block?
3. MEASURING THINGS?
We cannot use emotions and instant gratification (or instant disappointment) as a measurement of our success. That's what an immature person does. We must only use reason. And reason will tell us, that if we make a physical impact on something, we will observe a reaction, or a result.
For example, if we post 10 back-links back to our website, we will trigger some part of the Google algorithm. What if we post 100 back-links? If we read 1 per day, we will achieve new knowledge. What will happen if we read 10 articles per day? No matter what, we always get disappointed because the results of both of these actions are elusive. Can you measure exactly how many people visited your site as a result of 10 back-links? Can you measure exactly what the information is you have learned from reading articles or message board posts today? You can't.
So then... our goal becomes, not to measure our results, but to influence more of our action. We shouldn't concern ourselves with things like: how much X will I get if I do Y amount of Z. Measuring performance comes later. Instead, we should... put some Nike shoes on and... just do it.
When you forget about all the details and when you "just do it", you are no longer limited to rules. Why should you post 10 back links and observe results of it? Why not just do it? Why not post back links every day, even if it's just 1 or 2? Just make it a habit. Why care about measuring the results? Stop measuring everything. And just do it.
...
I can think of 2-3 more things that are important... I can finish this later My point is... train yourself to DO things.
Hope this ramble has proven to be insightful to at least some of the warriors here.
