Would This Get Me De-Indexed?

Hi,

can anyone please tell me if I've done something really stupid here.

Over the past three months I've put together a couple of sites both in the same niche.

Initially, I just made a handful of bookmarks/backlinks via Digg, ezinearticles etc - the usual places. At that stage one of the sites had me placed at #4 on page 2 in Google serps for a particular keyword.

Then .... I grabbed a Fiverr gig promising 125 high quality backlinks of varying PRs. About a week after that was completed, my #4 on Page 2 was completely gone and is nowhere to be seen.

Strangely, this site chose this particular moment to also stop being tracked in G/A. That's right, all of a sudden it says "Tracking Not Installed" whereas it was fine before. Could this even be connected? - Or just coincidence?

My question is, has the Big G punished me for getting 125+ backlinks pretty much all at the same time. I've heard people on WF say they only point these sort of cheap backlinks to their Tier 1 links - never at the money site itself.

Have I done something really stoopid here - and can I recover in time?

All responses gratefully accepted and appreciated.

Cheers,
Paul

The GA problem is just coincidence. Did you change/update your theme? That's the more likely explanation for that and you should just be able to reinstall it.

As to the Fiverr gig - I would think it is very likely that is what damaged your site's position. Not because all the links were built at the same time but because of where they were placed. The sites they are on will be spammy and full of totally unrelated links for any garbage sites whose owners have bought the same gig!

One of sites was damaged by Google Penguin. It is regaining ground now. I keep adding new content and I am building my own links again from (as they say) "carefully chosen" sites. It was the only site I had used a VA to work on.

      Hi Carol,

thank you so much for your reply.

I appreciate the opinion of someone far more experienced than I.

I really regret doing the Fiverr gig now that it's too late. But how do these Fiverr guys survive if the product they rely of for their income does this to peoples' sites. Surely no-one would EVER use them more than once.

Regarding the GA problem, - no I didn't do any updates on theme. So that is still a mystery.

Thanks once again Carol. All the best to you.

You may not be de-indexed. Go to Google and type in
site:yourdomain.com to see if it's still indexed. If it doesn't turn up any results, that would be de-indexing. Google may and probably did penalize you for the Fiverr links.

      Hi Suzanne,

thank you for replying and sharing your thoughts.

This is a real worry for me mainly because I'm quite new to it and this is the first time something like this has happened.

I don't suppose it will be the last, but I will certainly proceed more cautiously in future.

How do these Fiverr guys ever get more than one job if their work does this to clients' sites? That's a bit of a worry hey?

Anyway you're right Suzanne, - it looks like I'm not de-indexed at least. I still have the same 35 pages indexed.

So it looks like my serp from page 2 disappearing is punishment as you say. Bummer !

All the best to you Suzanne, and thanks for your input.

      Have a nice day !

      Paul

As a general rule of thumb, since post Penguin, I would really steer clear of Fiverr for any SEO. It's very difficult to say with any certainty what kind of links and how many and in what period of time would be acceptable and beneficial now.

I launched one site and ordered just 200 social bookmarks on Fiverr. Google deindexed the site. I bought a new domain and reinstalled it and it's doing fine now ... did not link it the second time. Just letting it sit for now and adding content.

I'm sure some SEO gurus will figure out the secret recipe, but for now, at least for me, I exercising extreme caution with backlinking.
