SEO Gurus - Posts vs Pages on Wordpress?

Going to make new site (with Wordpress) but I'm unsure as to whether I should put my articles on as posts or pages. (I will definitely put the privacy policy and about me and contact us as pages - I am talking about the rest of my content such as articles.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    I read that the guys from $100k blueprint or something like that suggested to use pages and use the posts to link to the pages, like some sort of tiered system. I guess the reason is that the pages will keep getting the juice from the homepage while the posts drip off much further down each time that you add an article. Obvious you can still bypass by linking directly to the post from the homepage but well. I think using the posts to support the pages is not a bad idea.

      That sort of sounds like Silo architecture ... but you can get the Silo architecture using Categories and Posts ... it just takes a little tweaking.

    It makes zero difference. The only thing that matters is your internal link structure, and you can achieve your planned internal link structure using either one.

    Search engines see them as the exact same thing.

    Both are same and use only one method for single site.

    Both will do the work, just make sure you link back each one of them.

    As your post gets older, it falls in search engine results. I had one of my top pages go from page 2 of SERPs to #1, simply by making the publish date more recent.

    As your sites would have many posts so it is easy to create posts and manage them, it would show in sitemap too.. so for information, product purposes, you need to create post.

      It doesn't make too much difference. I am using All-in-one seo but I am still getting some sales from the tags I attached to the posts.

    a post is a page, a page is a post, no difference, maybe... in how you create your sitemap and differenciate between update frequencies is about the only difference i could see, otherwise it's the same thing.

    Well, To begin -i will start with an example.

    First check out Brian Clark's blog about content marketing etc. He wrote some wonderful posts about content marketing and copy-writing.

    Now look at his sidebar with a h4 heading TUTORIALS. Actually those were pages.

    He used pages as a landing page for one subject or category. From those pages, he linked back to some of related posts.

    Simply:-

    page-1
    +post-1
    +post-2
    +post-3
    +post-4
    .
    .
    .
    +post-N


    You can use page for specific matter, such as about me, contact us, privacy policy or any custom purpose.

    Usually use POSTS for writing articles. and PAGE for linking related posts and others.

    • Posts are timely vs. Pages are timeless.
    • Posts are social vs. Pages are NOT.
    • Posts can be categorized vs. Pages are hierarchical.
    • Posts are included in RSS feed vs. Pages are not.
    • Pages have custom template feature vs. Posts do not.

    Great points here. I'd like to add to the latest bullet point list by webdevpro: posts can use custom templates by using the following plugin: WordPress › Custom Post Template « WordPress Plugins. I use the plugin and it's great to have the additional control over posts (on a post by post basis).
