I know that forum posting is a good way of link building but how important are signature links? How much value they have ?

    I use them, but they aren't the most powerful links.. Still you have to consider you're building links plus there's going to be traffic from users visiting those links to your site!

    It could be more powerful if you search a forum related to your niche, event staffing or any management related niche and post there rather than a seo forum. that way that way you'll be in contact with those who might really be in need of your kind of service. and backlink? i've heard google discounts some link juice if you post in a irrevelant forum. but thats our secret dont tell anyone.

    signature link with relevant forum has value but if don't continue with relevant it will be bad in eyes of Google and if you do it so much your all link will be count as a spam and your site will fall.

    do follow links from forums is a great way to link build, in terms of how powerful that link is, well, its not a big impact by itself, but you can benefit both from the link but more from the content you produce on the forums, getting clicks from your signature is a great way to generate some extra traffic.

    If you are using forum signatures for SEO purposes then you aren't using them efficiently.

    As backlinks, forum sigs are very low value.

    However, they can be a good source of targeted traffic, so think wisely about how you use them.

      Well, UMS, I believe your signature is a great example of what "good signature" should look like.
      So the consensus so far seems to be that there is little value in signature links for general SEO purposes. But I tend to agree that its a great way of promoting yourself and/or your wares on very targeted traffic, like the WarriorForum is. Plus being FREE can't be bad.

      But here's a question I was wandering about lately:
      I believe I saw someplace (forgot the page address, sorry) that you can put a graphic as signature. So I forgot how much that costs, but was curious if that "paid" click is much more valuable that the FREE signature, and "how much more valuable"? Anyone has some comparative data on this? Allen, anyone?

    From my experience signature links are not as important for SEO as they are for getting traffic from others who visit the sites where you left your signature link. If you leave a comment that makes the reader want to know more about you, you can quickly gain some attention and traffic.

    Keep in mind that easily obtainable methods in competive fields like ranking
    in serp, are not much worth to consider even if they are actually the
    whole soul of the ranking system. Others will use that method too and ruin the
    competition. Gold is gold not because it's valuable but because it's rare in nature
    and hard to obtain and takes millions of years to be made again.

    There's no such thing as easily obtainable method in competive fields in nature.

    Signature links are going to be REALLY weak links in terms of SEO. Are they better than no links? Yes.

    If you really want to get some strong links though, you need to get in-content links from a variety of sites in your niche.

    Signature links can cause problems post-penguin so you have to be careful with them. You definitely don't want to use a bunch of keyword-anchored signature links post-penguin.

    I run a bunch of sites and based on what I've seen, if you're going to get a bunch of links from similar sources (like signature links), you don't want them to be keyword anchored. Using your brand name, URL, or even "click here for (site description here)' is WAY better and less risky.
