Joomla - SEO QUESTIONS

Hello all,

I'm new here, so please forgive me if this is posted in the wrong area. We just posted our 2nd business's website and I have a few questions - some related to SEO, some related to the stylesheet and any issues that may arise with the Google crawler. Does anyone happen to be familiar with Joomla and whether the Joomla modules present a problem with the Google crawler? I'm able to do SEO on the article pages, but not in the modules. My main page is a module, so I'm concerned that my main page won't rank well.

I'm also wondering where the head tags are in Joomla. Again, please forgive the simple question. WarriorForum won't let me post a link to my site so that you can see what I'm talking about, but the top module is a slider. I've read that Google has issues with flash. I don't believe the slider is flash, but I'm not sure if it would present a similar issue.

Thank you for any info you can provide!

Hi! I only use Joomla for my websites. All my module works properly and i use both slider and modules (around 10) for my main page. So far no problem with search engines. Try to download a good SEO component from joomla extension! Incredible tools.

You may have module that is set to display only on your main page, but that is just a "piece" of your home page, not the page itself.

The global settings meta data are set in the configuration file.

You can set the meta data for the home page by going to your main menu, clicking on the "home" link, and setting the meta data there. You can set the browser (html) title, the page title, the description and the keywords.

These instructions are assuming you have Joomla 2.5. You have to install some addons to do the same thing in previous versions.

If your menu is linking to an article, obviously you wouldn't need to set the meta data in the menu item as it will pull that information from the article itself. You set it in the menu options only when you are linking to that display.

sh404SEF allows more control over every content display your site generates.

Thank you both so much! My site is 1.5, but I didn't realize that I can download components that would allow me to do the SEO!

      Thanks again!

Do you often configure your menu meta data even if it's pointing to a category or single article?

Not usually a single article, but sometimes if it's a category. I can't remember how 1.5 handles it, but you do want unique meta data for each category.
