I have a few sites that have maintained their rankings for main keywords, so basically the home page.

Out side of that the internal pages are taking a massive hit.

A lot of this was because there were so many pages that were "substantially similar" to others.

I have tried everything. Killing the pages, redirecting to the most relevant pages, re-writing content, combining content and more.

Usually what will happen is the pages will bounce back for a week or two, then substantially drop again.

Any help? Thoughts?

  • Camelcase,

Have you tried using one keyword for each page of your website? As far as PageRank goes, you really have to optimize each page individually. If you are redirecting them to other pages, they will pass along their poor link juice so this is probably not a good option. I would suggest re-writing them with a target keyword in mind for each page and see where that gets you.
