Does an Link on a Page have Higher Preference for SERP?

Just wondering...if i had a link (ie, "<a href...") that appeared near the bottom of a web page and i was ranked by the search engines would that SERP position be improved if that link had appeared near the top of the page (one of the first anchor links)?

In other words, does Google give higher priority ranking (and rank juice) to links appearing earlier in the html page?

Links that appear higher or in more prominent positions on a page may be seen as more valuable, yes. [ Some good info here ]

But that said, don't expect night and day improvement (or any movement at all) just from tweaking a single link.

And, if you're acquiring the right kind of links, you don't even need to think about this.

I think the article above is quite dated and this is not necessary 100% true, it's just the authors opinion. No one can give you a definitive answer on this but in my experience, you should be putting the link where it fits best so if you feel it's relevant to have it near the top then thats fine but if you feel it downgrades the quality, then yes have it at the bottom. You need to remember that Bounce Rate is another Google ranking factor so you have to make sure your website/pages are quality in order to keep the bounce rate low and even if the link is at the bottom, you still get the link juice.

If you found this helpful, please send over a Thanks to help me build up my profile. Thanks and Good Luck, Neil
