1 or 4 seo companys???

If you're hiring an SEO Company to do work for you on your behalf then it's all about attribution - you NEED to be able to know how what they're doing on your behalf correlates to the sales stats you see coming through.

Outsourcing to multiple SEO Company's will do two things:

- They will all try to claim responsibility when it goes right.
- They will all blame the other guy when it goes wrong.

Keep it to one or better yet, do it yourself - no third party agency will ever know your business as well as you do; use this knowledge to develop decent content, linking opportunities i.e. contacting partners/suppliers and to find potential non-competitive, high value target search terms.

You could say get them to target multiple terms but again, that won't really work and it's to suggest that applying link building resources to one term doesn't in some way correlate to rankings for additional search terms, which of course it does (every decent link injects authority into your website, after all).

GOOD SEO Company's will typically be able to provide a supplement to in-house activity and they should be used as such - if you have a decent link profile behind you already then the job is ten times easier, and an SEO Agency may be able to produce some decent results, providing they build the right types of links. Ideally though, should be able to direct them, too.

Most SEO companies out there are really good at one particular thing--they don't necessarily do all SEO tasks very very well. Find out what tasks each SEO firm does really well--and have them specifically do that task for you.

If you're going to use more than one SEO firm, then you need to delegate tasks and make sure that one is only building links, one is doing the social media, one is building content and promoting it--don't overlap any tasks.

Why on Earth would you hire more than one?

If you have a big budget, it's MUCH better spent hiring ONE good SEO firm than 4 mediocre firms.

It is always good to use just one SEO company, so that you can see and measure the effectiveness of their campaigns. Yeah, if you have too many when Google slap comes along who do you blame? :x

Stick to 1 company only. Reason for this is to measure whether that company is giving results to your site or not.

Why hire multiple SEO companies? This takes you more money, as you start investing tons of time into SEO companies while spending less and less time growing your business then this, in turn, leads to a slow decline in growth and profits. A really big mistake.
