Building Too Many Links Too Fast to One Page?

We all know that building too many links too fast to a site is unnatural looking.

However, my question is - what if you build say 8 LINKS in 45 DAYS to 1 page, then don't build any more to that same page for the next 2 months....would that also get penalized? Or would that be deemed OK, as long as you continue building links to other pages of the site.

Thanks for any help

    Nope, we don't.

To give an exaggerated example: imagine that you've invented an ultimate cure for cancer and have shared it on your blog. Websites like CNN, Reuters, BBC, the alternative media and others would report on your findings. Do you think Google will go, "hmm... too many links were built too fast... something is fishy here"

Not everything is as simple as we want it to be.

Not getting links too fast, I obviously meant getting them too fast then not receiving any afterwards. If your scenario happened, they would continue receiving links naturally for a long time after.

I should have used a better example. Articles can go viral and then - after a short time - become irrelevant.

No offence to the comments so far but no one has really attempted to answer my question so far, just gone off on different topics. Would appreciate some input that can help. Thanks

You will not be penalized for what you stated in your original post. Manual amounts of backlinks aren't raising any red flags. You're allowed to stop building links to a page any time you want.

Thanks for answering my actual question Don't know why some people go on about crappy links on every thread...couldn't be a more irrelevant thread as my site only builds high authority links.

                1. Because a significant number of people using this forum do post crappy links.
                2. Because you didn't mention what type of link building activity you are engaged in within the OP.

Probably a bit presumptuous of people, but hey, they are giving up their free time to try and help you out...

On topic, no - there are millions of websites out there which go months without ever building a link or having anyone link to them. There are no absolutes, but the only way you could be penalised is if the links you had built were of the severe crap variety, and if they were detected/interpreted as such. Even then though, with just eight links, it would have to be something pretty amazingly manipulative and you would have to be pretty amazingly unlucky.

Because the question isn't about types of link building, but the actual frequency of it to 1 page. Telling me not to build crappy links isn't helping me out though as it is telling me something I already know

But you're right many do go down that route!

Too many crappy links will definitely hurt your website.

But if you care about your website you shouldn't build crappy links in the first place.

Frankly speaking it's very hard to put that way...you should keep continue build backlinks to your site...but the most important thing is to make sure your content is good and give value to your unique visitor...

What's the point you're ranking at #1 but bounce rate is 98%...a good indicator to google that your site is low quality...you're dancing cha cha a lot !!

      Hello,

Building backlinks too fast may yet be another myth. To the OP: 8 links in 45 days isn't a lot of links, we mean thousands of links when we say 'building links too fast', yet I'm not aware of any penalty from building links too fast.

I don't think G will penalize page with a few backlinks. At least, that's not happening to me. I believe they now put more on quality content than just backlinks. I got site that I haven't been building backlinks to it for more than 6 months but it ranks well on G serps. Who knows Mr. G?

Now that's the power of links from high quality sites which Google really loves.

It is interesting how this thread is getting! Quality backlinks are a must do in IM.

Google will not ban you for quality links. They have to be relevant to your niche. However, if you spam, you will be banned.

I use quality backlinks for my main key words in my money site, and spam a bit in my 3-tier sites in my link wheel. It is just how you do it. You can't get many quality links without using automation tools though, avoid that in your money site.
