Work late nights? Try this

Last week my old laptop went to crap. Spilled water all over the keyboard and couldn't help but watch in horror as it spazzed out and faded to black.

I bought a replacement and after a few nights of using it I realized something was wrong. Working late at night became very difficult and being on the new laptop gave me migraines. My eyes also felt VERY tired.

I just remembered that I had installed a program called FLUX on my last PC and completely forgot to reinstall it. I had gotten used to it and didn't realize how big of a difference it made until now. Like night and day.

I figured perhaps it would be useful for a few other late nighters. Here's a quick description for those of you wondering what it is:

Ever notice how people texting at night have that eerie blue glow?

Or wake up ready to write down the Next Great Idea, and get blinded by your computer screen?

During the day, computer screens look good—they're designed to look like the sun. But, at 9PM, 10PM, or 3AM, you probably shouldn't be looking at the sun.

f.lux fixes this: it makes the color of your computer's display adapt to the time of day, warm at night and like sunlight during the day.

It's even possible that you're staying up too late because of your computer. You could use f.lux because it makes you sleep better, or you could just use it just because it makes your computer look better.

f.lux makes your computer screen look like the room you're in, all the time. When the sun sets, it makes your computer look like your indoor lights. In the morning, it makes things look like sunlight again.

Tell f.lux what kind of lighting you have, and where you live. Then forget about it. f.lux will do the rest, automatically.

And even better, it's FREE.

Looks pretty cool. I always turn my screen brightness way down if I'm working in a dimly lit room. I'll check this out.

I have a few friends who are serious gamers and they say Flux is brilliant - haven't tried it myself though.

So that's where my sleeping problems come from. Every time that I get in a normal day rhythm it only takes 1 day or I'm awake till 6-7am in the morning again.

Yeah I use Flux AND turn the brightness down. Relaxing and very easy on the eyes.

I wouldn't rule out any other issues, but computer strain could definitely be the cause. Especially since we're tied to the computer so much.

Gave it a go last night, just what I needed!!! Noticed the difference on my eyes right away and much easier to concentrate. Thanks again for sharing, probably push back my need for glasses another few years.
