Unusual Website Setup

I'm working on a updating a website and i'm not sure if the current setup will cause an SEO issue.

The Domain name goes to a HTML webpage.

On the domain page, there are two links, one to the 'website' and one to a 'Blog'. The problem is, that these links each link to a separate WordPress website on the same domain name.

So in summary, we have one HTML page and two WordPress websites on the same domain all pointing to each other.

This was not my choice of setup and I would like to change it, but the owner would only like to do so if there is an SEO reason, is there?

Additionally, if I was to update the 'Blog' page, would the other website be classed as 'updated' at the same time? It's a different website, but on the same Domain.

This set-up doesn't sound that great from a usability perspective: you don't want visitors having to click unnecessarily, they'll end up leaving the site.

Could you have the main website show first, with a link in the main menu to the blog?

      Hello Simon,

Strangely, the usability is ok as there is not many options on the website.
I've tried to change the main pointing website, but the webmaster wants me get a good SEO reason first.

Would a good SEO reason be that Google favours original content on the landing page. So just having two links doesn't sound like there's much content going on.

What's the webmaster's reason for having just two links on the landing page?

I agree that this kind of setup is unusual and not the ideal one but i don't think that it would effect site seo as long as content and links are clean.
I guess you can convince the client on the basis of maintainability. Make him understand that how daunting is to maintain this kind of setup
