Its been quite a time since the Hummingbird update was rolled out. Since a month I have been sharing this post Hummingbird strategy with SEO community, hope this helps you. After going through many articles about new hummingbird algorithm, I have managed to highlight few points which will help you in post Hummingbird era. Follow these highlights to improve your SEO strategy-

    * Create quality, linkable and relevant content
    * There is no need to bring in drastic changes in your SEO strategy
    * Focus less on just keywords and more behind the intention of using it & your customers
    * Actively engage with your potential customers on blogs and other web 2.0 media
    * Understand and adapt semantic search
    * Emphasis more on social media interaction

Please suggest some more points which can be added, thanks in advance

Without going into detail, hummingbird is an algorithm which tries to understand "human conventional speech patterns" better. (As opposed to, say, shorter keywords and phrases). In simple speak: Google got a little more "smarter".

As a result, longer and more complex search phrases can be understood. Longer and more complex searches mean automatically that more detailed and more specialized content will become more important and rank better in the search engine.

    Pre-Hummingbird:

"Acne Remedy" or "Natural Acne Remedy"

    Hummingbird:

"What stores in the NW Chicago suburbs carry natural acne remedies cheap?"
    or
"How can I lose weight when I only have 20mins per day for exercising?"

If your content or site lost rankings due to Hummingbird I assume that the content is too broad and general. ("Broad and general" can also mean it's simple useless blahblah, like the countless articles on ezinearticles - oversimplified, over-general content)

Solution: Write or get more helpful and more detailed content which addresses specific problems, rather than filling your sites with general crap content.

Most importantly (and the MOZ article just confirmed me there):

    STOP THINKING IN KEYWORDS

This also means long-tail keywords. (Important: My above examples there do not mean to use longer phrases now as longtail-keywords. You should entirely abandon the idea of keywords! In fact, it's those sites who had been optimized for long-tail keywords which now got slapped.)

agree always put yourself to your target market's shoes. to cut short:

Link Diversify - don't use exact keyword match, don't buy links, optimize no only the homepage but also the deeplink or subpages links.

Anchor Text Diversity - 25% should be exact on what people are searching for. 25% for reverse order of your keywords, mix, long tail and shuffle your keywords.

Let the page tell the story - always use the evergreen method, always put away the marketing side and always give the reader what he needs and what he wants in just one look on your page.
