Would it be easier to rank with a new domain/business name?

Our site used to rank in the first two pages for our keywords, now our rankings aren't in top 5 pages for keywords and they used to be.

We have tons of directory links to disavow.

Question is would it be more worthwhile to start over with a new site or could disavowing hundreds of links get it back on good standing with google again?

We are trying a seo team for one month to see if it helps but wonder if making a new domain and business name might help do the trick?

Also with a new name will google see it as duplicate content or once the other domain is put out it wont be a problem?

Thanks

Instead of a brand new domain you can also consider to buy an expired domain that already has some PR to give you a kick start.

One of the benefits of that would be that you can be more aggressive with your link building campaigns as the site already has links and thus a lot of variety in the anchor pattern.

Do try to get your hands on a domain that is relevant to your niche though.

Lately I setup an ecommerce site about pet products and I found a domain that already had links with anchors like puppies, labradors, people and dogs, dogs etc., the site scraped all the data from Amazon and I was surprised to see it ranking at page one and two for almost all of the non edited titles. Kind of shows that Google treats the site as one with authority, I would have never pulled this off with a brand new domain.
