OK. The *main* purpose of the ping is to get the SEs to notice that you've posted new content on the web, so they can send their robots to INDEX your page quickly ;).

YEAH!!!!! PING-PING AN PINCH SOME MORE xD..... Well, if you use WordPress you WILL need the ping optimizer or max ping plugin to prevent yourself from spamming the pinging sites... so they don't...
