The New WF How To Thread

I was brosing the options in the kick-ass user control panel, and noticed something really cool that new/semi new warriors might want to know about.

I'm still a newbie, and wanted to share. If you have a question or want to share a cool tip that will help others with the new forum, post it here (took me 15 minutes to figure out how to Instant message someone).

How to activate the IM Pop-up

In the old forum when you recieved an instant message, a cool pop-up appeared at the lower right corner of the browser window.

By default, this option is turned off in the new forum.

To find it quick and reactivate this slick feature, here's how you do it..

1. Right-click on USER CP in the upper left-hand corner of this window.
(this opens a new window so you can still read this how-to)

2. On the left side, mouse down to where it says SETTINGS & OPTIONS and click on EDIT OPTIONS.

3. Scroll down a bit to where it says MESSAGING & NOTIFICATION, and find the box titled PRIVATE MESSAGING.

4. Now click on the radio button (or check box) that says "Show New Private Message Notification Pop-up:" to turn it on.

That's it.

Cheers,

Grant

PS. There are lots of other cool features in here too, including the Miscellaneous Options located at the bottom of the SETTINGS & OPTIONS are where you'll find a full WYSIWYG message editor!

Great idea Grant. Let's all post tips in here.

Here's what I just discovered. You can insert a video in your post. Use this code (without the spaces):

    [ url="http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=bxc15_SiWSE"]The IM Wars Of 2007[ /url]

    And you get:

    Signature
Kevin Riley, long-time Warrior living in Osaka, Japan

      EASY FORMATTING OPTIONS:

      A couple of observations:

      1. When I made my first post in the new forum, I noticed the text box was just that - a plain text box, with no formatting options (for bold, underline, etc.). This is the default setting, but it's easy to change:

      • Go to UserCP / Edit Options
      • Scroll down to Miscellaneous Options, and change the selection from Basic Editor to either Standard Editor or Enhanced Interface (the latter provides the most options)
      2. When you want to use BB code for links and so forth, there's a nice summary list of code samples here:

      http://www.warriorforum.com/misc.php?do=bbcode

      HOWEVER:

The Enhanced Interface allows for easy insertion of links, images, etc. without the use of BB code!

        Thanks,
Great tip. If that window never Popped up for me I would not notice my PM's right away. I liked that in the old and now I will set it on the new. I guess I need to take the time to go over everything in the User CP and make adjustments

        Cheers,

        Paul

I like the "Who's Online" feature, where you can see what everyone's doing!

          Quick Links => Who's Online

          Almost Correct Example:

Kevin Riley - Trying to find the most obsure embeddable media on earth.

Thanks for the tip on the enhanced editor.

I just updated my WSO from the old BB commands to the new one and it must have taken 10 edits to get all the BB changes correct!

        Hi Grant,

        2. On the right side, mouse down to where it says SETTINGS & OPTIONS and click on EDIT OPTIONS.
I think you meant 'left side' rather than right?

      Kevin,

You don't need to use the enclosures, just the url unless you want to add a description. Unfortunately this doesn't seem to work on the blogging platform. If anyone figures that out let us know will ya!

A few Warriors were asking about this one, and it's a real simple to do.

    Here's how..

First, at the bottom of your original post, click the EDIT button. You'll get this screen:

Click the GO ADVANCED button to get the thread title field..

From what other Warriors report, you can't change the MAIN title of a thread in the WSO section, only the smaller title shown inside the thread.

    Cheers

    Grant

Have you checked the radio button "Use custom Avatar"

Make sure you save the changes after that..

(Also check your picture size .. it allows only 80px by 80 px or 19.5 KB only)..

        Hope that helps,

I have no idea what a radio button is lol. I am a newb.

Also, I think my pic is 75 pixels by 75, would that be alright, or do i need to make it bigger?

When you click on "Edit Avatar" in your control panel, you'll see 2 areas :

            Your Current Avatar at top
            Customer avatar below

In the Custom Avatar section look for the text "Use Custom Avatar".. There is a small circle before that.. That's Radio Button..

Just Click on the circle, upload your image and Save changes...

            And you are done

            Cheers,

Here's a great tip from our Beloved Admin about downloading your Private Messages.

    http://www.warriorforum.com/showthread.php?t=717

When that inbox of yours starts getting a little slow to load, now you can download the contents and import it into an excel worksheet and more.

    Cool!
