Out of interest how often should one put out a blog, or would this a how long is a piece of string question and depend on a list of things.

I was thinking of doing it one every 3-4 weeks

Every 3 to 4 days, so basically twice a week. Its not so onerous that you can't get it done, and its not publishing so far apart in time that people forget who you are.

Unless your posts are time sensitive for some reason, (like they revolve around a topical news item) then see if you can take the date stamp off. Not many things worse than searching for a topic and going to a blog for up to the minute information only to find out the post was written 3 years ago.

I didn't always think this way of posting twice a week, but a guy whose blog I follow did this for a year, and his traffic and subscribers increased tremendously during that time, so i decided that I would adopt his method.

Interesting to me, I found that the more i wrote and made it my goal to write consistently, It became easier and easier to the point where well written 800 - 1000 word posts were flying out of my fingertips onto the screen.

Check out his site at James Clear dot com.

To tell the truth, the pace is up to you. It's much better to post a few posts per day than two per week. The problem here is persistence and consistency. If you're sure you can keep the chosen pace, do it. Otherwise - don't. Google likes consistency. It's reliable.

you should be posting at least twice a week, or maybe three times if you can keep finding useful stuff. The important point here is that your blog should be about the topics that people are going to be interested in. Your blog shouldn't be boring or borrowed. It should be original, creative, and engaging.

People will remember you if you give them a dose of something valuable twice a week.

      Thank you for the advice.

I might try once a week until I get in the habit. And build up from there.

I'm guessing to start with is write down 20 or so topics to start with and go from there. That will give me something to write about for a while.

      Cheers

Shoot for once a week. However, it's much better to post quality content and promote the heck out of it. If you're just slapping content on your site, you'll find that you won't see the results you want.

If you sit down and devise a mini content strategy, it'll make your life a lot easier. Open excel and make columns for:

        • Titles
        • Keywords
        • Content description
        • Content ideas
You can even go a step further if you like to include:
        • Voice
        • Intent (prospect, current customer, etc)
        • Media type
        • etc
If you want to go even further, you can outline your articles for the month (just headers) to make it even easier.

I think one of the keys here is going to be quality. You don't want to post just for the sake of posting. Make sure your posts are useful to your audience. Starting with one post a week is great to get in the habit of being consistent, but I would eventually try to work up to two or three posts each week.

when i launch my site I add 1 article a day for a little bit, and then move onto every 3 days, then after about 75 or so articles/blogs I set it to once a week and keep it like that.. Just my personal preference

The most important aspect of blogging is consistency. If you have decided to expedite on blogging, then being consistent is the key. Many people start off and don't go the extra-mile and churn off after a month or so. So if you stay consistent and keep your content repleted with quality content, users will come and google will fall in love with your website too!
I would suggest to push your limits a bit and publish on daily basis. Its the most recommended frequency. You can always schedule posts (specifically if you are using Wordpress) and can create multiple blogposts in one go and schedule them to be published on daily basis.
Be sure to publish them at a specific time as well. Google loves consistent time-stamping as well.

Thanks for the input ever one. Some things I never thought of there. I like the idea of scheduling as I work away all week.
My next question is could I be pointed in the direction of where I can learn to build up a viewer list. I'm sure the be one here somewhere.

    Thanks again

1000 words. I used to hate creative writing when I was at school.

You don't need 1000 words, all you need is to cover the idea you are talking about in a way that makes sense to you and to your readers. If you try to reach a goal of a particular number of words, especially if you used to hate writing, you might as well start doing CPA ads.

Every reader knows inside when the writer is phoning it in. And when use lose their interest, it doesn't matter what the subject is, you are pretty much done. If you try for a post around 500 words, the first few times, broken up with a lot of whitespace, and write the way you talk - OK not put, ahem, and huh, and that stuff in it, but the way you write here on the forum, there are people who will respond to you.

Maybe not everyone, but you will find readers who do, and that is the beginning of a relationship, and if you are selling something, a relationship is where the selling process starts.

It's easy to write 100 words right? When writing a blog post make up 8 sub-headers. Write 100 words for each then write an into and summary of 100 words each.

    Viola - a 1,000 word post.

Post a blog whenever you have something interesting or valuable to share. At a minimum, twice per week is good.

So much depends on the quality of your post, too.

If you are posting content that no one wants to read or share, your frequency doesn't matter. If you're getting a lot of engagement, go ahead and post more often. If that isn't possible, consider starting a newsletter.

I try to post a new article once a week. While I haven't been 100% successful at doing so, I've certainly been getting better.

The frequency is up to you, really.
I actually used to have this "plan", for each new blog I opened, I would post intensely, for the first few weeks, I would publish 1 article each day, at least, so I would get things going. And then, continued to post once or twice a week.
This is what seems reasonable to me. But you might have a different opinion You have to think from a reader's perspective, how often would YOU like to read updates, if it were someone else's website?

Though Google loves detailed articles spanning around 1500-2000 words. But what Google is more besotted about NATURAL and VALUE factor in the content. If your content's topic can be covered in 500 words or so, don't stretch it. Keep it natural, pithy, valuable and share-worthy!

I think it really depends on your topic. I know a guy in the personal development niche who only posts once a month (pretty long post), and he gets hundreds of thousands of views.

I have blogs I post to 3-4 times a week and some I only post once a week or once a month. I come from the school of thought that believes you shouldn't force yourself to write anything unless you have something important to say.

If you're just starting out, then I would post more often so you build up enough content for those readers who want to learn more about you. As you build up your readership then you could go to once a week.

You can publish posts everyday if you can. But, it entirely depends on your writing skills and your efforts. I usually take a few hours initially to research my topic and build a post structure (what topics to cover and other stuff such as images, videos etc). Google loves quality content. So to create a quality blog post,it actually takes some time than low quality post.

Take a few time to create a quality article which search engines and people like alike.

Taposh, I read your article. Then I tried to understand your article. I am sure that it is my misunderstanding of your use of the English language. I'm sure I would be the same way if I tried to communicate in your original language!

But you give examples of 25+ articles a day (Huffington Post) all the way down to once a week by other bloggers. Could you clear this up for me, Taposh?

Wow, glad I clicked on this WF heading, too!
Thanks all and especially, Michael, DREM and Robert...I mentioned this on another thread, but my friend who owns an online area business pub says he needs to post something EVERY day as it is not a pure blog on a single business subject (marketing, employee management, accounting, etc.)

At first blush, I tend to agree with him as I'm headed in the same direction. I've told him he doesn't need to be like the large city business blogs, but just shape it however YOU want it. But I tend to tell him to stick to his once-a-day schedule. But I have no experience to back that up.

    What say you?

Hi guys i'm new here but in my case having just starting a blog about 3 weeks ago and posting 5 times that 1st week I've now resorted to 1-2 times a week and it certainly helps keep the motivation up in my case now that people are visiting and commenting..

Wow. Every 3 to 4 days per week is oh Good great but requires great effort. Mine is just 2 per week. It's not just about writing the content bu promoting it. If you have a dedicated team do that for you, then you are okay.

But 3 to 4 per week? It's gonna be HOT.
